YG or WG Day Date
I was looking into buying a white gold day date as a daily wear watch. My buddy says yellow gold is the dd to get due to the historic nature of the watch.
Does anyone here feel strongly that a day date should be YG?? I'd like to hear if many more people share this thought. I think WG goes well for daily wear as most people will think it is SS. |

I like both. Personally WG would be my choice, but the Tony Soprano YG is pretty cool too.

I only buy yellow gold or rose gold watches. White gold and platinum just look like stainless steel to me and I don't wear that. Totally personal preference though - my good friend loves his all platinum pieces and they look great on him [of course stainless does too, haha].

I had a YG DD and ended up selling it. If I were to get another, it would be in WG or platinum.

I have a YG DD and a WG Sub. I definitely wear the WG Sub a lot more than the YG DD due to the nature that yellow gold is more flashy and WG is definitely under the radar. I feel more comfortable wearing WG.

As a watch guy with almost exclusively yellow/rose gold watches I think all of the comments about yellow gold being too flashy is pure hype/nonsense. I rarely EVER get a second look, comment, etc about any of my watches - whether Rolex, AP, Patek, etc. Only watch people care and most people might actually think it's a Michael Kors watch anyway, haha. At the end of the day, buy what makes you happy. For me, I love seeing the warm luster of yellow gold! There are no wrong choices here... :-)

Last reason is most of my gold is 22kt which is not white - I wouldn't mind changing things up. |

For a daily wear I would choose the WG with the blue diagonal motif!

The YG is the classic but I prefer the RG, more subtle and modern look esp with chocolate or sundust dial.

WG is definitely more hip, but really depends on your age and circumstances.

I am a Yellow Gold fan! But I have been wanting to add a WG DD to go with this one. So I see both sides to this coin.

If you are considering the Day Date 40 could be a good idea to wait a month or two. The 3255 movement is being modified because of problems with some change-over mechanisms. It is supposed to change around midnight, some have been erratic and changing up to 90 minutes late. Rolex have added a couple of parts to solve this.
I had three faulty samples, a friend had the same, both our ADs have sent their stock back to get the modification. It will all get sorted, teething trouble with the new 3255, but it's probably worth waiting a bit...anyone with this issue can get it fixed under guarantee. I far prefer the white gold; it flies under the radar. |

Both of my PM's are WG. I like the way it stays under the radar.

My opinion - platinum or yellow gold, on the DD. I have both, would not even consider white gold for a DD. On a DD, white gold is the ersatz platinum.
The rose gold looks too feminine for me, on a DD anyway, especially depending on the dial. My platinum 228206 changes date right around midnight no problems. |

I have had the delight of wearing 3-4 Day Dates a true classic made from YG.
