I have a 5 year old Hulk in great condition that will be in need of service sometime in the next few years. A service will cost me around $500 I believe - correct me if i am wrong.

I have been seeing pre loved prices in my area (Toronto) for around 9k cad.

I am confident i can get my hands on a BNIB Hulk from an AD for around 10,000-10,500cad all in.

Would it make sense to service my watch or would I be better off selling it and spending the extra $500-1k to have a new one with stickers and 5 yr warranty?

Sorry just cannot see the point I would keep the one you have now and have it serviced in the next year or so, after service you will have a full two year warranty.

I have a five year old Hulk and it keeps dang near perfect time and I'll wear it until it doesn't, then I'll have it serviced. Buy a new one,

don't think so.

Do you buy a new car every time it needs an oil change?
Unless you want a new one for whatever reason, I don't see the point in replacing it just because it's due for a service.

Service the Hulk, as I see little sense in trading and then getting new. Then again it's only money, so your call.

Personally I'd find doing all that switching around buying and selling a pain in the butt. Time is money :)

Also I'd want to keep my original 5 yr old watch for sentimental reasons

I'm in the school that you service when the watch needs it due to not working within specs. If your Hulk has no issues in a year or two don't service. Just wear and enjoy. No need to buy a new watch.

Totally agree. A $500 routine maintenance is no reason in flipping it for the same exact model.

I serviced mine at about 5 years. Came back like new and I'm glad to still have the watch with which I've done so much.

Plus, I prefer the older dial font.

I would keep it and not have it serviced to be honest. If it keeps good time and hasn't been abused. Let it run for a couple more years.

I think the OP is interested in the new 5 year warranty. If you service the watch, you'll only get 2 years. 500 for 3 extra years of piece of mind is not bad IMO.

I think you have a good grasp on the OP's strategy.

The question is would either watch actually require service/repair within the warranty period? My bet would be "no".

And, does his current watch require service? OP, is it running egregiously slow or fast?

My watches aren't just "things". We all process the world differently. For me, the fact that my watches have been with me thru various experiences transforms the watches into objects which I value differently than say a fork or a pair of shoes.
