PLISSON Shaving Brushes & Razors

Anyone else here have interest in high end shaving brushes and razors..? I just ordered from France 3 of the PLISSON Shaving Brushes with one in Olivewood Handle, one with ROSEWOOD Handle and the other in BRIARWOOD and all three are in the large #18 Size with French White Badger Hair. The Company has been hand crafting shaving brushes since 1808 in France... These are just the bomb in looks and world craftsmanship .

I'm debating adding a Simpson to my rotation... but the selection is over whelming.

I have a couple of Simpsons and love them.

I have a WeeScot for traveling and a stunning Duke D3 in sapphire for home use that has become one of my favorites.

I've not had a Plisson yet.

So many great shaving products out there. I must have 20-25 brushes alone!

I have an old skool leather and silver gentleman's wash kit that my Grandfather gave me with a Badger hair brush. Has a bakelite holder in it for the razor blades. Its a pleasure to use. Lathers up real smart.

Me too. I like that a badger brush retains warmth the best, but I don’t like it’s floppy nature and always come back to a boar brush.

Sorry, can't agree with you, Jason. Although I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a brush, there's stuff I enjoy that I'll pay a whole lot more than most would find reasonable (including the razor set I posted). I bet you have stuff others might say the same about.

I was referring to the brush, and I stand by it. Nothing else.

I have a friend who has a shaving brush that was turned from a huge piece of ivory. It is extremely rare and I’m sure it was very expensive. To each his own.

I assume you paid a fair market price for your Sea-Dweller, a watch that is far less accurate than a $25 quartz timepiece. Who is to say how much someone should spend on an item they value?

My mistake. But then aren’t you being a fool to keep it when you could sell it for thousands and buy a much cheaper watch instead.

Once you have practiced a few times it’s really not as delicate as it looks. As long as you use the right angle and motion you won’t get more than a nick.

When freshly stropped the blade should be sharp enough to cut a hair when the hair is pushed against the blade. I read the stropping step is only temporary as it ‘uncurls’ the ultra thin edge of the blade to a minusculey fine edge.

It any case. It’s the sharpest thing in the house when ready to go.

I would not mind giving it a try and don't they offer straight razors with interchangeable blades too..?

Yes that is what I learnt with - you snap a regular blade down the middle prior to installing it.

Barbers tend to use this type.

The smaller size makes it easier to pick up the new skill.

I used one from Geo F Trumper of London for a long while, it was a small one called a "Chubby." I had a very large one at first but found it too wieldy and it got water and soap all over the bathroom, the chubby, although not cheap was perfect. I had a razor made in Solingen (spelling) that was brilliant once I learnt to allow it to shave me rather than when I put pressure on and removed half my head after each shave.

Solingen is the home of German steel. They do make some very good items from there. This is where my razor comes from too.
