Well used Submariner thread!

This is my Submariner, there are many like it but this one is mine. The marks on my watch are what make it different to yours. I love this watch, it will never be polished in my lifetime. This is what a well loved Submariner looks like.

Almost 2 years of daily wear since brand new, I don't take it off when working on the car engine or when hanging underneath the ride on lawnmower, I don't even take it off to shower or sleep. I have only recently taken it off a couple of times just recently to give my new LV some wrist time.

Enjoy, then show me yours!

Chips on crystal at 45 and 47!

I cannot tell you how comfortable this watch is, it's so well lived, supple and silken to the touch, all the edges are well deburred, even the bezel teeth which when new would have shredded a cuff, are smooth to the touch. Noting, no noticeable stretch at all to the band.

Nothing like a well used modern Rolex.

It looks really good for a watch that’s been used daily for two years. I’m not seeing any major gouges or songs in the case. The light scratches on the bracelet are nothing

I am thinking this sub is your beater watch. It is an excellent watch! It has held up well considering everything it has gone through.

On the other side of the spectrum, I take off my sub when I wash dishes or eat crawfish - lol.

Cool. I respect the fact that you wear the watch for everything. It looks great as well.

Ive done the same with my first watch (Tag Link Calibre S) for the past 11 years and have been debating doing it with my new Explorer for the next decade. The Tag (gift from my parents) was with me from college graduation, to buying my first house, to my wedding, to the births of my kids, etc....Its the one thing that was on my wrist through all those important life events. Even though my tastes in watches have and will continue to evolve, THAT watch is the only one with that history.

I already have the itch for another Rolex (after having the Explorer for only a month), but there is part of me that thinks having one watch is the way to go......at least for a set time before its retired. It tells a story of that segment of your life.

Love it!

Glad you have loved it for so much. I do a lot in my Sub but since it’s in rotation I don’t have many love marks as yours :)

I'm having an anxiety attack just looking at that.

In all seriousness it's your watch you're entitled to do whatever you choose with it. But I take better care of my things than that.

It’s not about that, I don’t polish or baby my snap on tools (and they are expensive) they are tools and I use them. A watch can either be a tool or jewelry. To say he doesn’t take care of his stuff because he wears his sub the way it was designed (as a tool) is a little rude IMO.

I wipe down my tools when I'm finished with them. It's just the way I am about my things. I wouldn't wear a $30 Timex when wrenching on my truck, motorcycle or lawnmower.

I'm not making a moral judgment on the OP. Just stating that I tend to take care of my things better than that.

As I said in big bold underlined font; In all seriousness it's your watch you're entitled to do whatever you choose with it.

I agree with the tools statement because they’re tools. I’ll bang on my snap ons as well because that’s why I pay extra for them. My submariner is from 2018 and it’s worn daily but I won’t wear it where it’s not appropriate such as working on a car. It only gets in the way and there’s zero benefit to wearing it while doing laborious tasks. I’ll leave it indoors or just drop it in my pocket. Mine will never be polished either, but mine is nowhere near as scratched as yours

Never really understood these threads. It's your property, of course, so you are entitled to do whatever you wish to it, but well worn to me would be well kept, which would mean, least amount of marks, dings, scratches cracks etc.

Just seems peculiar, how no one would give any positive feedback or look for it for scratches on art or jewelry, or scratches or dings and damage on a Mercedes Porsche ferrari, or other high priced luxery possessions, for instance.

These encouraging responses to such watches change REAL QUICK when the same people praising others for a beaten up watches are in the market as BUYERS for a pre-owned. You are no going to find buyers looking for watches in such conditions. Or even lower priced possessions/property. My casio watches that I don't "baby" don't look like that. Lastly, my tool sets are nicely and neatly kept and maintained.

Not saying you have to be OCD like me and stress out about keeping the watch close to perfect, but jeez, don't see the honor in abusing these timepieces either.

I think people are honoring using something as it it was intended. Ferrari's weren't created to display and look good, that's something our materialistic society has warped. I drove a 911 that I washed about once a year, but it was tuned to run like the well oiled machine it was designed to be. People made fun of me not washing it, but all I cared about was driving it; and for it's intended use, I took great care of it. Submariner was designed to last a lifetime of use and be depended upon, that's what OP uses it for. I don't buy things to display or resell. Ever looked at professional musician's guitar, if you really play it, the finish will eventually wear off.

It's great if you collect things to look at, but I think you're missing the real purpose of the items. Their REAL value is in the usage, the rest is just perceived value we've created in our heads and transferred to our society. Originally things didn't cost more because they were "luxury items", they cost more because of the quality, performance & durability.

See, the logic in this is that all high priced items are ought to be treated the same. A watch is not a porsche it not a ferrari is not a mona lisa. There are very expensive tools that people actually use on the daily that get beat up and scratched. Superficial scuffs does not equate to neglect. Maybe OP cleans his watch every month? It's a difference of lifestyle in how these watches age. Even touching your watch everyday will accrue scuffs and scratches.

There is also a fallacy in thinking that any watch we have must be kept scratch free for the foreseeable resale value. It's so sad that it's the norm now. Obviously no one wants a beat up watch but who says OP will sell his watch? Admonishing for that sole reason is in no basis of a solid argument unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing OP because no matter how beat up it is, you can always just have it polished if you so please at next service and it will look brand new for another 10 years

People will haggle anything, watches aren't an investment and depending on who you ask, patina/scratches are either good or bad. Perhaps living in the moment and enjoying the watch for the watch, rather than the value, is the best approach here.

I see that some people are pushing back on the OP and that's OK.

I, for one, love that the OP uses his watch. You like a good watch, but you don't baby it. In many ways, it displays a quiet confidence - you can always replace it.

In a strange way, it makes the people that do baby their watches seem like they're "sweating the money" because they know they can't replace it. I'm reminded of that scene in Poolhall Junkies, "The difference between you and me is that I'm a millionaire. I lose 80k I get another 80".

Good for you OP.

Daily companion

16610:
- 16610LV hands
- cyclops removed
- fully brushed a year or so ago

It lives on various Nato's 90% of the time and the bracelet 10% - depends on my mood or if needing to dress it up for whatever reason.
