Rolex or Omega
Debating on an OP41 Bright Blue or Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich. Which do you choose and why?

At retail I would buy the Rolex. For the better watch the Omega.

I´d buy the OP, but they're hard to get at retail. I could pick up a Speedmaster tomorrow at the Omega Boutique here, but would only get the hesalite version with a solid case back. Just my preference...

I'm biased but I don't think you would ever regret buying the Rolex.

You can't go wrong with the Omega moonwatch. But it's manual winding, so make sure that's not a deal breaker for you.

The shortest way is a straight line. Rolex now or otherwise you’ll have to make a U turn down the line for it.

Posting on TRF in the Rolex specific general discussion I think you are going to get different answers than if you posted specifically in Omega Forums on Omega general discussion.
That said, my vote is Panerai ;) |

apples to oranges. very different watches. that said, i have both and the speedmaster is one of my all time favorites. it rides so well on the wrist, perfect size, weight and the dial is second to none. the speedy offers unrivaled history, it's not over hyped, it's available, and is very strap friendly offering many great looks from sport to dress. get both.

no, part of the deal with a chronograph. if the speedmaster is going to be a daily, winding can get old i guess but it's also a way to interact with your watch which i personally like and have no issue with.

I bought my 1861 2 weeks ago and it hasn’t left my wrist except to be wound. It’s kind of a lovable quirk, forgivable as it’s direct descendant of the original. I send 5 or 6 times longer brushing my teeth in the morning than winding it. Will it wear off? Who knows but I think it’s highly unlikely. Only problem I have with Omega in general is I have got so used to Rolex glide lock which I find invaluable in the hot spell we are having in UK already looking for strap options which will be more forgiving on a hot or humid day.

Speedy over the OP, easy win.
Yes the Rolex is great, but it’s not an icon, whereas the Speedy, well it’s just the best. Oh, and I’m biased I have the Speedy.

Is this one of the Omega references where they put the AR coating on the outside of the crystal???

Rolex. Omega always misses the mark somewhere.
Bracelet clasp, bracelet that doesn’t taper, ovals for links instead of spheres, twisted lugs, escape valve you need to turn, count weight on hands, etc. |

What caught my attention was their new bracelet. It looks so much nicer now that it is tapered and the clasp looks way better. Only downside I'm debating on is that it's manual wind.

I have owned several different versions of the Speedmaster Professional. Great watches with unrivaled history. I wouldn't worry about the manual wind. Simply give it 30-40 turns every morning (or whenever you put in on after a absence).

The Speedmaster you’ll get hasn’t - but a Daytona could have been to the Rolex24, or Le Mans… Your original question asks for a choice between a classic Datejust and a very different professional watch. The closer comparo would be Daytona vs Speedmaster. I’d say Daytona for the movement. Another “which one” would be Datejust vs Deville Coaxial. I’d say Deville for the movement. But it’s also not hard to look at… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

However why are the link ovale in shape, and why do they persist with their use of twin trigger pusher release, alongside oval shape for said triggers. I also wish they went to the lollipop and dagger style of hands. That’s the issue I have with Omega. They could make great watches but they keep them below Rolex with these odd design choices. |

Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich. It's the best daily ever. I have the Hesalite version personally!

I'm not much of a Speedy fan, so I'd go OP.

If you don't mind manual wind the Speedy.
If you do LOTS of active water sports the Rolex.
