2x Incoming… trimmed down collection

Hey guys :) First thread in a while. Over the last months, I’ve purchased several watches at retail price (with the exception of the 116500LN white dial) but most watches, after wearing them for some time, did not made me want to keep them 100%. In the end I went up to like 10 watches, so I decided to trim down.

I traded in with a dealer a lot of the pieces that I didn’t use in exchange of two subs… the Starbucks and the Hulk, and the rest in cash, which is eventually going to go for other pieces at retail price — pieces that are in two ADs’ waiting list. I lost cash on a few of the cheaper timepieces, and made money on several others. The deal with them was that given it was a good chunk of cash for the timepieces, I should take on at least two watches. But I feel much better now to own mostly pieces I really want to wear.

I took on a Hulk 2020 (new Rolex card, unworn)… it had two small light / almost unnoticeable dings. Nothing that a very light polish on the affected areas cannot get rid of. This one I’ll be keeping in the safe though, because of it’s price (cost me 23k USD from the full deal) and because…. it’s too much green… and I find that the 12 series is a much better compromise. It’s crazy to have fantasied so much about the Hulk, and then in reality after I owned it, I end up wanting to wear the 12-series instead.

The 126610LV— was a total surprise for me, as it’s become my daily wearer, and I am truly loving it. Like many of you say here: you gotta buy what you like, although price was almost double retail (I paid 19k USD out of total trade-in value). At one point I’ll get one at retail, and will probably trade it in at a dealer for another piece.

Main thing is for the first time in a long time I am really wearing what I like and enjoying it!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Ps. I didn’t forget about the photos… or it didn’t happen

Oh geez. I’m usually not the person here that looks for something to criticize but... unworn, has dings, paid 23k, it’s going in the safe...

None of that makes any sense to me. If it has dings you cannot sell the watch as “unworn”. If you “polish it out” as you said, it’s definitely not “unworn”. If someone sold me an “unworn” watch and has dings I would be so angry. IMO a dinged Hulk would have to climb to 28k for you to get out even. With all of that said I’m not a fan of buying watches for an investment abs if you’re paying grey prices for a watch then good luck.

2 green subs? But you don’t even want to wear one of them?

I also would never buy a Hulk at the very top of the market and think it’s some investment piece that needs to go in the safe. Plus you said you don’t want to wear because it’s “too much green”. So you don’t like it? Why do you want it?

I personally did buy a flawless 2020 Hulk but I wear it often. It’s my beater. There was just no other watch available for 23k that I wanted more. I enjoy the watch.

Sorry, don’t mean to pick apart everything you said. I do agree with getting what you like and I understand making mistakes and trading things as you get a better feel for your tastes.

I agree with you partly. I was a bit angry when I came home and found the dings with better lighting. But he took on a lot of the watches. Like i said, part of the deal was that I had to buy at least two watches he had. Was not possible to only do the Starbucks and cash. I talked to him about the dings, and I’m right now on the wait for another watch where he will take on the unworn Hulk as a payment at the same price I took it for eventually.

That sounds like better outcome. I didn’t mean to come across harsh. I guess as you said “you made money on other pieces”. It’s definitely a good time to dump stuff you don’t like.

I have the two (as you can see hehe) and I sincerely think the 12 series is a better daily wearer, more toned down. The Hulk’s dial is pretty of course, but it’s not something I could wear everyday.

One yes, dealer would not do cash for all of them. I’m wearing and loving the Starbucks and the Hulk is in the safe, and the rest cash to fund future pieces.

I would love to know what you traded and what you still have in the collection besides these two.

There is nothing wrong with putting the LVc away. There are a lot of ways to enjoy a watch and you may one day get a hankering for the all green LVc and wear it. You will never loose any money with it and really looking at $23k in a watch is a lot more rewarding to me than seeing and digital number of $23k on a bank statement. I agree the 12 series Sub is a better watch so you might as well the new kid and enjoy it. It’s not that much different than collecting gold coins. I owned the LVc and it was a great watch but way too much green for me after 2 years of ownership.

I think overall you did the right thing.

And for me the new Kermit just Trump's the Hulk in case dimensions, new movement and personally was never a fan of the sunburst dials.

watch collecting has been like this for a long time — you have no idea how many people have discontinued NOS watches in the safe at all levels from very complicated Pateks to Rolexes.

Both the Hulk and Kermit II are gorgeous timepieces. I have both and love them so much, it's fun to wear and get a lot of compliments.

They will be in my collection forever.

Congrats. I guess. $23k for unworn Hulk w/ new style card is great price from a grey but I guess they “made” enough on other trades to sell it to you for that “cheap”.

The kermit 41 rocks!

I passed on the Hulk more times than I can count. I got the the Kermit 41 about month after it was released back in 2020. Everything about it is so much better than the Hulk, but hey that's me!
