Icon5 Choose between getting DJ now or wait for….

Hi, i’ve been putting myself into abit dilema - had put deposit on DJ41 Blue and the watch will come next month - confirmed, however i also await for starbuck Sub since it released last year. My good SA told that if i get DJ41 i would for sure not consider the sub for at least one year or longer. If i cancel the DJ41 then she can try to talk if they might able to give me the green sub next year but they can NOT at all commit on this delivery (as they did not take any deposit for any Prof models)

My decision options:
- take blue DJ41 next month and wait a year or way longer finger crossed for the green sub in 2023
- politely ask if i can postpone DJ41 to 2023 and help consider pushing me for Greensub next year (chance is higher than if i take DJ41 now)
- cancel DJ41 gives to other client, and wait patiently for the sub if nothing coming up next then i sort of start from scratch with neither Sub and DJ41

I have built some histories with this AD and not my first Rolex from here, what do u guys think which way to go? I prefer to have Sub over DJ41… at this point.

Thanks for your input and sorry for this long explanation.

This year I picked up both the green Sub and the blue Datejust. The Sub is in the box, and I enjoy the Datejust on my wrist every day. Cermit is the pressure of the market, nothing else. Personally, I enjoy the Datejust a lot more.

If you love the DJ, get the DJ. Build that purchase history. Given how availability keeps getting worse, a bird in the hand is better than a Kermit.

If you love both, get the first one that is available to you now and get the other one later.

Green sub is overrated. Get the dj and a black sub instead.

I would get the DJ as it will be here next month and it is a beautiful and classic watch. This continues to build your purchase history with the AD and when you pick up the DJ you can say that you are ready on the Submariner. If you have to wait a year, so what, you have a great watch to keep you company. With no delivery date on the Submariner and no confirmation that you will even get one you have the answer. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Fluted DJ just sparks under the sun and have a very characteristic reflection (those who know will know what I speak about).

It’s infinitely more luxurious but less fun (rotating bezel is fun, glidelock is fun).

Up to you, but DJ is a very solid offering IMO, despite anything.

I’d only buy the DJ is you really want the watch, otherwise I’d wait for the Submariner

Here's my take:
1) are you really able to get a Kermit in a year? I would think you have to be a big spender at the AD for this allocation. From what I hear they are very hard to get. Without prying too much depends on your spend history and on what items.
2) if you cancel on the order it will not look good. Yes, they can sell to someone else easily but it doesn't come off in your favour if you cancel
3)If you really want the DJ and budget isn't a factor then I say buy the DJ. This will increase your "this customer is solid rep" and purchase history with said AD.

Wait a year, save some more money and hopefully you get the Kermit in a year. That's what I'm doing. Hopefully I will have a Pepsi this time next year.

Good luck!!

Agree with this. Sounds like you have a good SA that'll come through eventually. I would do what I committed to and then wait for the sub.

If you want them both, which looks to be the case, then take them as they turn up.

Don't get the DJ if it's merely a means to get the Sub.

Indeed, here is my current collection:
Black Sub 116610LN but i prefer to have starbuck one as well.
OP41 Turquise - here is what i get from this AD earlier this year - yes i ordered thi since the release.

My preference is Starbuck over DJ41, so is DJ41 means my chance to get Starbuck will be much less in a year or two is my true concern as i have been waiting for this long before i ordered DJ41 which still accessible even 1-2 years waiting time.
My ideal situation would be that if starbuck can come next year, but if not i can still get DJ41 end of next year or early 2023 so i don’t cancel the order and make it looks bad to my history.
I have also serviced 2 watches and plan to buy 1-2 non Rolex watches to my mom and family as well, my SA also aware of this.

If you want both then start with the DJ and you will eventually get the Sub. The blue DJ is an amazing watch!

For sure get the date just now. It sounds highly likely it will happen in a month. Then you’ll have more purchase history and you can politely remind them a couple times about the sub over the next year, making it highly probable in 2022.

If you cancel the DJ and ask for sub now there is a very real chance you’ll get neither.

Sounds like your AD is rationing how many Rolexes you can purchase in a year, which would be absurd IMO..

I’ve been told by a very reliable source that Rolex will be “rationing” purchases next year across the board 3-4 max per customer per year.

Actually it was my SA who asked me if i want to cancel the DJ41 and says that i would eventually get the green sub so it might be faster as my lst purchase was in April 2021.
The AD has general rule about you cannot get many hot watches within same year, and all OP41 DJ41 and Sub are one of the hot models for them so…

I guess we should be mindful to not exude too much enthusiasm or eagerness when buying a new Rolex lest the all-knowing AD brand you as a flipper. You have far more patience and tolerance than me.

Get the DJ now.
DJ is the best all around watch and the blue dial is getting harder to get.

Take the DJ and also take the lesson about not putting down your name for too many watches.

Don't know your purchase history, but my guess is if the Sub hasn't been offered yet, you'll probably wait another year on it anyways, so might as well enjoy bird in hand.

If you really like the DJ, then get it.

If you don’t like it that much, then skip and wait for the Starbucks.

Don’t succumb to instant gratification. I buy to add to my collection with the perspective I will never sell. It’s ok to wait a year or two if you’re going to keep the watch for the next few decades.

As far as your collection goes, personally I’d get the DJ. The fluted bezel (you didn’t say kind of bracelet but I hope Jubilee for the DJ) is quite different than the OP you have. If you already have a Sub, the green sub is really not that different.

So we've gone from "buy DJs to build history" to "don't buy DJs as you'll lose you peace in the line"?

What a load of bo77ox

I would tell them where to stick their allocation

Yes it is DJ41 blue WG with Jubilee the most beautiful combo IMHO.
As it is way more difficult to get Green sub where i can always write up for DJ, but i agree that it is a quite different watch to my current collection.
I will see what my SA says next week, but one thing i’m pretty sure if i wait to see the DJ41 blue in person it’d be extremely difficult for me to say no to

Get the DJ41...... Unbelievably comfortable on wrist and the blue baton dial is stunning.
