New Rolex Explorer 36mm 124270

Hello everyone,

I have a 6 1/2 inch wrist and I have loved the 39mm Rolex Explorer I 214270 for many years.

I was just curious if our community felt that new 124270 was really an upgrade or should Rolex have kept the 39mm?

I appreciate any thoughts you have as I am torn between the two models.

I hope you are having a wonderful week.

Randy

My preference is the 36. The proportions of the 39 seemed off to me.

Even after two tries by Rolex, the 39 never looked right.

Have to agree 36mm is a real classic Explorer and one of Rolex longest production runs.

100% agree with this. I had the OP39 Dk. Rhodium; beautiful watch but, something always felt 'off'.

I had to let go of it for a lovely DJ 36, which is absolute perfection!

Have seen both.
Much prefer the 39.
They should rename the 36 to "explorer 35"... it's way too small.

I had the 39mm and recently bought the new 36mm...I much prefer the proportions and dial layout of the new 124270. It is just perfection to my eye...the perfect daily wearer!

I tried on the new Explorer and I have a 7inch wrist. The watched was very comfortable and looked great. It has a vintage feel, or maybe post-big watch feel.

I have a 7 wrist also. The 40mm feels great on the wrist. Super comfortable. It's such a cool watch. Very glad I bought it.

6.25 wrist here. 124270 is love at first sight, some things are just right. You really need to try it in person to appreciated, its svelte but its well put together.

The new one on my 7” wrist.
My most comfortable watch and a great upgrade from the 39mm. I really like the proportion of the watch, and the dial is just spot on.
The problem I have now, is that I’m starting to adopt to the smaller watch size and all my other watches are starting to look too big:/

I have a slightly larger wrist size than you, definitely 36mm fits and looks better.

36mm gives a perfect fit and a vintage feel anytime you have on your wrist.

New Rolex Explorer 36mm 124270

Had both. Sold my 39mm soon after buying the new 36mm. 6.8” wrist for reference. It’s a near perfect watch.

I think 36 is the perfect size for the Exp. Glad they brought it back.

36mm is THE Explorer in my opinion. One of my faves that I’ve owned. Loved it. Should have kept it.

I’ll echo everyone above and say that the 124270 is my favorite Rolex. Absolute perfection!

The 36 looks perfect to me. Have yet to see one in person, but honestly it is the only modern Rolex that catches my eye.

The new Explorer I at 36mm is perfect. The bracelet is a huge upgrade, especially the clasp. I think they made the right call going to the historical dial layout and size.

7.5in wrist for reference.

After wearing the 39mm I can tell you the 36mm face looks terribly cramped. Just doesn't look balanced IMO. I would get both if you can but if only one the 39mm is my recommendation!

Here is my 39mm

Have both. 39mm for me, 36mm for my girlfriend.

I agree with a post above stating it should be called the explorer 35. It's definitely a girl's watch
