Instead of agonizing over waiting lists…
Just venture out and find another brand to love! My first Grand Seiko but definitely not my last! I spent some time looking at it under a loupe and comparing it to my 116500, and let’s just say that everything I’ve read about the quality of finishing that GS has is beyond my expectation. There are a lot of excellent watches out there that you can just walk into a store, fall in love with, and take home the same day. Isn’t that what this hobby should really be about? |

Congrats! Honestly the best thing you could have done in my opinion. Enjoy that stunning piece! I can't wait to add a GS to my collection!

GS do some stunning watches. Not sure I like the PR indicator on the dials. Looks great on you. Wear it with good health

Excellent watch. GS is one of the brands I am considering buying a watch from as well as OMEGA.
But not before I complete the collection that I hope to attain, I am not greedy, I have a SS DJ41 and want a Sub and a GMT from Rolex and that is it I am then planning to venture into OMEGA and GS. |

Looks nice but doesn’t scratch the itch for Rolex if that’s what you want, IMO.

I get it. I guess since I’ve been buying and wearing Rolex watches since the late 80’s it’s hard to wrap my head around the hype as it exists today. Maybe it’s a good thing though, as I’ve elected to give up the Rolex/PP chase for the time being and find new outlets for my watch interests. It really was fun to do a little research and then have a salesman actually “sell” me a watch based on how it was made and what makes it special, rather than how much it’s worth, or will be worth.

Where I live we can have a Seiko and a Rolex. My Day Date is a fine watch but I have to be careful where I wear it. Gold is a soft metal but some people will do not nice thing to get their hands on it. |

Good point and oddly exactly why I bought it. I’m going to a former even in Mexico City in a few weeks and the only truly formal piece I have is a DD36. I’m guessing running around MX City wearing that is a suicide mission and I’m not going to leave it in my hotel. Rolex is just far too obvious a target, and even a Tudor is risky simply because they look so much like a Rolex. It gave me a great excuse to get a new watch!

I hear ‘ya, bro.
Rolex isn’t the only fine watch brand out there. Wrestling through the hype at ADs or paying 2,3, or 4X MSRP at greys isn’t worth it for a lot of fellas. GS is a fine piece of craftsmanship and Seiko has a fun history. |

The general consumer does not want a nice watch, they want a Rolex. Nothing else will do, regardless of the quality offered by competing brands.

Ironically, I don’t know a single person who never had an interest in watches who’s recently acquired a new Rolex. For all the newbies and neophytes stoking demand, where and who are they?

Most Rolex buyers aren’t looking for nice dress watch on a leather band. That’s why Cellini has done so poorly. The comparison would maybe do better in the Patek section compared to Calatrava.
