How could Rolex destroy their most beautiful Daytona watch? Speachless.

I am devastated and gutted. This forum is therapy for me today.
This has got to be the biggest Rolex fail I can possibly think of. Rolex took a perfect organic design and purposely ruined every aspect of the iconic Daytona. It’s like they are trying to showcase how much better the 11 series Daytona is/was with a “New Coke” exercise in marketing.

Epic fail with butchering the Daytona line. I am in disbelief Rolex could make so many design screw-ups their most perfect watch.

Oh man that metal edge around the bezel is a huge issue for collecting dings and wear marks. IMO….it adds nothing and becomes a liability.
The biggest “fail” is the beautiful organic case lines have been butchered into a now blocky supercase look? ??
A blocky Daytona?

The 11 series Daytona has now become incredibly special and “THE” SS Daytona.

Agree 100%. No more silly asymmetric lugs, sharper and cleaner dial, vintage looking bezel ring, and a new case shape that will (hopefully) make it wear a little larger. Love it.

Absolutely. This was long overdue. The old SS was very weird - even the AD SA wouldn't believe it!

I actually preferred the new version over the outgoing SS Daytonas. The watch has more of a racing chronograph look to it imho. I have a black dial Daytona and I think it feels a tad too dressy with the roundish case and one piece bezel.

New one LOOKS better and IS better in every way. So tired of the prior models’ bag holders whining about the new model which in this case was executed perfectly. I am the proud owner of the prior white gold blue dial Daytona (116509) and I am very much looking forward to purchasing the new platona..

Love the new touches, all of them, love the new movement. Nice soft update.

Also LOVE the new yellow gold GMT. Wow.

I'm really curious to see what the actual case measurements are. If it is now a true 40mm I'll be happy.

Based on the photos, the SS and YG case (for bracelet) are now using the PM style case that is symmetrical. So case size is now likely 39.5mm on SS and YG.

Same here. I've always loved the look of the Daytona, but it wears like a ladies watch. Way too small, and desperately needed to be bulked up a bit.

If there is such a problem with the size or look of the Daytona then why is it the most popular Rolex sport watch by far? They've definitely made the new Daytona look more like a Sub or Yachtmaster and less like a Daytona with the ring around the bezel and more slab sided look. For those of us that already have Subs and GMTs and want the Daytona to be different, more dressy and sleek the new one is a total fail. For those who don't have all of these pieces and want a Daytona that has more of a bulky presence on the wrist....the new one might have more appeal. I personally think the new Daytona looks dreadful compared to the 116500. Smaller watches are in right now and the previous Daytona was a sport Rolex that fit a niche that is evolving in it's direction. Now the newer one?....less so.

Hahah Mystro, totally agree. The metal ring around the bezel is a nod back to likea 6263 I guess. But I personally don't love the idea of dinging the edge of it.

If my AD offers one, I will add it to the collection. Am I desperate for it? Absolutely not.

The steel ring around the bezel is an ugly addition. The case looks chunkier and the brushed sides are just weird. The old one looks a more complete design.

No brushed sides. Also the case now has the oysterflex case and is round and organic.

The blocky sides made it look brushed on initial photos. Not a fan. Looks like a Tudor case now.

Till I see one in the metal I can’t say one way or the other.

Aesthetically I much prefer the new subdials and symmetrical case. I’m not sure about the bezel outline tho.

For me the biggest turn off’s still remain: unbalanced dial layout, and screw down pushers.

Jury is out, but I’d say I slightly prefer the new version over the old YMMV

Agree. Why they cannot offer a model without the screw down pushers is beyond me. I have to take my watch off my wrist to unscrew the pushers to use the chrono. How many people actually swim with these watches? I know some do but most folks, I believe, don't.

100% agree. I’ll add that legibility doesn’t seem to have improved with the new one from the renderings.
Still Speedmaster > Daytona for me.

This. Dial definitely improved and more legible. Not so sure about the rest.
