Hello, I am on the waiting list for a GMT and i have received a call from the AD asking me to bring my previously purschased DJ 41 in order to allocate the GMT for me! is that's normal?
has anyone experienced this before?

Sounds like they want to confirm you aren't a flipper, which IMO is ridiculous/absurd. It's none of their business what you do with products purchased with your own money.

That said, I'd just bring it to get the GMT and not make a big deal of the request, but I'm rolling my eyes pretty hard over here.

The store also has the right to put conditions on the sale of the watches they have purchased with their own money.

All people do here is complain about flippers. But whenever these ADs make even modest efforts to discourage the practice, people bristle at that as well.

Agreed! I have no issue with ADs. The supply shortage is not their fault, unless they are selling stock out the back door. If Rolex finds out that they are, they will lose AD status. I know my AD also tries to weed out the flippers, by getting to know their customers. I feel fortunate to have been allocated a 36 mm OP, without a previous purchase history, even though it took awhile. I’m happy to wait , again, for my DJ. I will not pay grey market prices, unless I buy a used piece, that is priced right.

Yes, you have your right to do with the watch you purchased from them before ( to flip or other ... )
at the same time, they have their right to choose to sell / or not sell the next new watch to you as well, it is totally fair.

Of course it’s their business to make sure your not a flipper - in fact their whole business relies on the fact your not a flipper.

If they want to maintain their Rolex AD status they have to be very careful who they sell the hot pieces to.

Rolex have started to come down very hard on AD’s selling out the back door to grey market dealers.

I don’t blame the AD for asking this, they are protecting themselves.

Fair enough. They are basically giving you the additional $5K in value for free. So they want to be sure it's going into right hands.

They aren't giving him anything. They are selling him a watch...

They're not selling him anything, because he doesn't have the DateJust.

We can sit here and argue about the validity of the request all day but it's a moot point because the OP isn't getting a GMT from them either way.

True. There wouldn't even be a thread if the DJ still existed.

I don't think it's odd and wouldn't take offence if my AD asked I show them the 126610LN they sold me in order to buy a GMT. If you just buy new Rolex to flip them, then I'm glad your AD does some screening.

On principle alone, just because they said so, I would never bring it with me and I would let them know why. What I do with my property is none of their business. Whether they'd sell me a watch after that or not, I don't care. That's their call and none of my business.

Very foolish approach. In life decide what is the result you want and how best to achieve it.

Thank you.

As I said It's a matter of principle. Everybody has their own set thereof. End doesn't justify the means.

What’s the principle, though?

Not being manipulated or feeling insulted by those seeking my patronage.
This is a message that needs to get across at some point.
YMMV

Also note OP is in Oman, maybe this is par for the course there, but it seems clear they want to verify he's not a flipper by proving to them he still has the DJ.

Sounds reasonable to me. Although my AD has never specifically asked this of me, I know he values seeing me wear prior purchases in when I visit and I suspect it's to see that they haven't been flipped.

AD weird call

Obviously this particular AD doesn’t sell watches out the back door. I get that it feels insulting, but I also get why they asked, and am glad they don’t want to sell to flippers. I’d walk in there wearing my DJ, with a big smile on my face, and walk out with the new GMT.

It's none of their business but if you want the GMT and don't mind an AD pushing you around like they own you, fair enough.

Good for them for taking the steps to eradicate flipping to the best of their ability. Some of you sound like a bunch of Karen’s
