So yesterday I went to the AD for a peek. I saw in the exhibition window the beautiful Submariner. After chatting with the owner he decided to sell it to me!
Over 30 years giving them my business definitely paid off!

Let the haters hate; the AD experience is great and now he has a brand new watch, that’s 100% authentic, with zero risk of it having been previously taken off someone’s wrist at gunpoint. Yes the secondary market is currently slightly less for this reference, but as he said it’s about a 30 year relationship.

I’m sure someday when you request a more in-demand reference your AD will remember your loyalty then too.

My Smurf had diamonds so I did not feel it was truly under the radar. I love the thinner lugs, bigger body. It just looks understated but you know what you have. That is one big aspect for me. Not many people on the market are willing to put out 40k for a sub that looks almost exactly like the ss version. demand is low for this particular watch.

i am not just talking about AM price, the new WG sub just looks very similar to the SS version and if people want to spend that kind of money, they have better options. the older one with the blue dial is a different story

The feel and weight of the gold is totally different form SS. People who buy this watch want that satisfying feel and have no concern for what other people may think. They probably hope they don't think about it one way or another.

I beg to differ. The AD I visit frequently is in a high end mall. Many more potential customers with higher income than myself visit. I am an old faithful customer when they only sold AP, Vacheron, IWC, and Jaeger.
They appreciate having a customer for the long haul.
BTW, If the sub was available with a blue bezel. I would have purchased it instead. Thanks all for taking the time to post!
