My Stealth Rolex

Not many people would recognize this watch for what it is.

Looks like a raggedy old presentation watch. The caseback would tend to confirm that.

But then we look a bit deeper into exactly what this watch is. Turns out its a Rolex reference 6222. Applied gold letters "1/4 Century Club" instead of the hour numerals, yellow gold hands. Caliber 10’’’ Precision, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, Superbalance adjusted two positions, shock absorber, self-compensating flat balance-spring, index regulator.

One of the very few series of watches that Rolex has ever authorized without their name on the dial, for the now-defunct Canadian Timothy Eaton department store chain.

After having the movement overhauled, the plastic crystal polished, and the lugs corrected by Rolex Canada's recommended goldsmith (it had been worn regularly with a cheap aftermarket expansion bracelet which abraded the inside of the lugs), I think it turned out ok, and a heck of a stealth Rolex. I currently have it on a black teju lizard strap. An added bonus, it has the cleanest original dial of any example I've looked at.

Wow - thanks for sharing. Learned something regarding the "private labeling" they did at one point.

That’s lovely. I’ve seen examples of these before but not in as good a condition.

Wow, this is very cool! Very interesting history which I would have no idea of otherwise. Thanks for sharing! What a beautiful piece and looks great on the black lizard strap. I had totally forgotten about those expansion bracelets. They were really popular back in the day.

Looks great! Where did you find this gem? Was it passed down to you as an heirloom?
