Tried a GMT2c and Exp42 side by side today.
One of those will likely be my next purchase. I keep going back and forth between the two. I'm thinking the GMT2c. The head of the Exp almost seems to large for the bracelet. I'm sure I'll own both though eventually.
It's interesting to note that the Rolex store continues to keep the Exp42 in the back and seem to only bring one out for those with a buying history. Doesn't make sense to me. |

You can't go wrong with either one. Can't wait for the wrist shot.

I had a similar experience this weekend as well. Amazing how closed minded they are as a company, artificial demand tempered with a rampany grey market

One smaller AD I recently visited also had the Exp2 in the "back room" and only brought it out when I asked. Agree with you it doesn't make sense to keep it hidden away, if you want to sell it.

I prefer the GMTIIC between the two because of the ability to turn the bezel for different timezone calculations (based on GMT offset).

Can't go wrong there on either Art.
I tend to prefer the bezel of the GMT.

I sold my GMT IIC a month ago to a co-worker to buy the Exp. II . I am now currently looking to buy another GMT IIC. Its a great all round watch.

I have both watches. Bought both this month. I bought the GMTc in TT first and then the Explorer II. The GMTc is a better looking watch in my opinion, but the explorer feels like a better daily watch for me. They are both great watches. By the way, my Explorer II was taken out of the store safe as it was not on display. I was told it was the only one available at the store, but this could be a marketing strategy.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1338256394.943961.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1338256426.058285.jpg

If this is your first Rolex, I think the GMTIIC is the way to go. That said, I recently purchased the Explorer II as I am already a Submariner owner. I bought the Explorer to contrast with my existing collection. All the detractions I hear about the Explorer II (larger, bulkier, the dial, the orange hand, etc) are precisely the reason I bought the watch. If you want a watch that stands out and contrasts, get the Explorer II (it is amazing every day watch). I cannot find an outfit or occasion which which it does not fit. Looks awesome when I wear my dress uniform and is just as badass in jeans and a T shirt.

Go for the Explorer II
I'll be in the minority here... Go for the Exp. II. After wearing a GMT-C for five years, the Exp II is my go to watch. FWIW, I have a write up comparing the two here. -Sheldon

Hello Art, which GMT IIc are you looking at? I had the SS version nice but flipped it for my TT which I love. I now have a white faced explorer and it is an amazing watch. It is different to all my other Rolex watches. It makes a great daily watch and I gave not seen one in the wild yet.
