Walked in on a "new old stock" Sub Date!
This happened a while back, just never made time to post about it.
As you know, Rolex discontinued the 116610ln on September 1st when they released the 126610ln. My fiancé and I walked into an AD in New Mexico, USA on October 16th of 2020. I walked in just for fun, hoping I could see some of the new colorful OPs that Rolex released. A sales guy, greeted us at the door, asking what we were interested in. I said "nothing really, just wanted to look around." As we walked over to the Rolex case, I saw what looked like a black Submariner Date. I asked "Is that a Sub?" He said "yes sir it is!" "What? The new one? Or the old one?" "The old one sir, the one that was just discontinued." "Is it for sale?" "Yes sir, want to look at it?" "Sure." I then find myself amazed that I am trying on a Brand New NOW DISCONTINUED Sub Date at an AD. What are the odds of that?! After thinking about it for about 5 minutes I decided to take it. Called my credit card company, swiped the card, and they sized it for me. What was also very cool is that when I decided to buy it, the store closed because one of the owners of the jewelry store flew in to film a video at the store. They kicked everybody out of the store except my fiancé and I (because they were sizing my watch). We got to see them record the video, and left once it was over. Very neat experience! |
