Ulaanbataar, Monglia
I recently had a trip up to the capital city of Mongolia. Never did I think I would visit there.
Located in the Gobi desert, north of China, the landscape is very barren but very beautiful. Breathtaking mountains and beautiful, although very unique looking people. I dont think there was any buildings more than 5 stories high. Many of the local people still live in tents, called "gurs" which look very well constructed and very warm looking. These "gurs" are round, about 10 ft high and have a chimney(stove) in the middle for cooking and heat. Chinggis Khan still has a presence there. Many items with his face on it, tee-shirts, coffee mugs etc . They even named a local beer after him, which is a very good ale BTW. Had quite a few of them. Even brought a 24 case back with me. His likeness is carved in the side of a mountain that face the capital. Very impressive..... Hope I get a chance to go back....... |
