'Son of a bitch'
'Son of a bitch' could be derived from 'Son of a gun' ... when women were allowed to live on naval ships and gave birth they did so near the midship gun ... and if paternity was in doubt the child was entered in the log as "son of a gun"
Foregoing (Son of a gun) is documented in Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable ... but I have seen another reference (but I forget where) that refers specifically to US Naval ships . But English naval ships had mixed crews in Nelson's era. I would call the guy in picture a B@s@rd of the highest order.
