I'll have to agree to disagree , crown guards to me are essential, its the main reason I haven't bought a pilot watch. I've seen a crown ripped off of a Hamilton Khaki during a boating/fishing incident so perhaps I'm hyper sensitive to crown guards but I see them as a tool watch must have. JMHO

I think modern design, materials and engineering have perhaps made crown guards somewhat unnecessary, but I wouldn't go so far as to say obsolete, I still like knowing they are there, again JMHO
