Rolex Daytona 'Peruvian Airforce' Ref 6263
The Rolex Daytona Ref 6263 is widely recognised as the Paul Newman Daytona, but it secretly had a second purpose and life in the Peruvian Airforce. Despite all 6263 models being the same mechanically and aesthetically, the Daytona issued to the Peruvian Airforce had engraved on its stainless steel case back: "Fuerza Aerea Del Peru".
Only around 650-700 Rolex Daytona's were issued to the Peruvian Airforce and I was lucky enough to see one in person when my uncle's investment company received one as payment - they can retail from £30,000 upwards (depending on the condition) (Image courtesy of WatchClub.com) The glass was a domed type sapphire crystal and the dial featured Tritium lume (as indicated by T SWISS T at the bottom of the dial.) The Peruvian issued pieces did not present 'Daytona' on the dial, instead it read Rolex Oyster Cosmograph It is extremely rare to see these models on the market, and when they do appear, they fetch a rather large sum. |
