What type and year Seamaster do i have here?

I have had this watch for over 35 years, I inherited it from my father. I have never properly researched it. I did have a new crystal and strap fitted a few years ago. One thing thats very interesting is the text ‘omega automatic’ it was obviously hand painted by a watchmaker before I inherited it. I actually kind of like it although it’s not very well done. To be honest, I never really noticed until a short while ago!!
Can anybody give me some info about the possible production year and model? I can’t provide pictures of the backside at the moment but could do so at another time...

Another twist to this story. My father who was an officer in the Army bought the watch while stationed in Switzerland. He was wearing his watch when he passed away on a boat at sea in 1982, thus the word Seamaster has a double meaning for me...
