Nautilus 5711 or 3800 for half the price?
I have the opportunity to get this (see link below) 3800 for ~12,000. Or, I can get a brand new 5711 for ~25,000. Decisions, decisions...

I personally don't like it when they do 4 in romans as "IIII" rather than "IV". It's a little thing, but that would always stick out to me.

Few differences to take into account besides size.
The dial on 5711 is available in blue and white stick dial. Blue is very nice, white is nice as well, but to me it looks more sporty. It may be easier to source white than blue (David has one listed right now). Difference can be seen here. ![]() Second - the 5711 has see through case back which the 3800 does not. I'm sure others will chime in about the movement differences if there are any. I'm still learning in this area. |

At this price level it becomes a question to me which watch you truly love. I say that since also 12k is an aweful lot of money. I think it is more about buying what you will enjoy the most the first time around, as otherwise you might end up spending more in the process to get there eventually.

3800 with roman dial no. But original 3700 with square ears - definitely!

I don't like the roman numerals on the particular dial you are considering, so I vote 5711...

The 3800's dial is closer to 34mm, excluding the 'ears'.
Freaking small for a 7.5inch wrist. |

For this price difference, the 3800 is a better deal. Now if you were able to get in on the 5711 when the MSRP was under $20K, that would have been a different story. I know that was 10 years ago, but for the same watch, price increases always make it tougher to justify paying the higher price later in a watch's production cycle.

3800 is the original Genta design -monoblock case with bezel screwed on the sides-5711 consists 3pcs.if you like vintage go for it

Eh 5711 for me. It's worth spending double for a new Nautilus. You'll sell the smaller one within 6 months and take a bath. We're not talking about vintage Rolex here.

I had a 3800...loved it...got it into my head it was too small and wanted a 5711...sold it..then tried on a 5711 and found it to be too big. btw I have SMALL wrists and usually need to order a short strap with any watch purchase or have an extra hole/two punched.

Its sold now so were you the buyer. I used to originally look for cheaper options in watches I liked, then I worked out I will only be truly satisfied with the model reference I wanted. SO on this I voted for the new version which remains spectacular. for me personally and I say it is just me I don't think it is a dial that works well with roman numerals.

I don't care for Romans, especially how they cause the dial to be asymmetrical, so my vote was 5711
