If you owned an SUV and drove it as your daily, would you expect your two-seat Porsche for the weekend to be as big, or would you accept it for the design it was? |

Perception plays into my dislike of the 42mm Explorer as I have the 40mm(really 39mm)..it looks terrible to my eyes..Just as to many the 39mm Explorer dial looks 'wrong' to some. Not sure about comparing 36mm and 39mm Explorers to daily drivers and Porsches..I bought my Macan S as my daily because it shares the DNA of Porsche..obviously don't expect it to me like my GT3. I love analogies but you lost me with that one! Never said I didn't 'accept' the design of the 36mm Explorer. In fact, I love the design. Just for me it felt small and again, that's largely due to my other watches..but sure i accept it for the OP who has both the 36mm and the 39mm. That could very well be me one of these days! -------------- Oh when i posted "Not sure about the 36mm?" I was responding to the OP who posted: "Love the smaller size (I think)!"? asking him if he was 'not sure'. Glad we cleared that up!

You’d mentioned that after many 40mm watches, when you try on a 36 its a little small. I was just saying they cant all be the same as some designs are meant to be smaller, hence the analogy with an suv and a sports car. It wasn’t personal critique. Ironic really, given your forum name. All the best. |

And he has a 39mm as well! You mention the designs can't all be the same and some are meant to be a little smaller...OK, but in this particular case, Rolex gave us 36mm and then 39mm and then took away 39mm! It is the 'same design' but to a different proportion same as the 39mm Explorer 2 was exploded to a 42mm design. oh, 28mm is a reference to my favorite focal length not watch size

Yep all fine. I personally think certain pieces are supposed to be smaller, by original design, rather than re-producing them in 40mm plus. Again, in my opinion i think the balance gets lost when produced in larger sizes as they were never supposed to be that large. Sports models are obviously not included within that and should be larger by default. |

Super torn on the 36 v 39. They’re both fantastic; the Historical purity of the 36 and the Dial is amazing; the 39 size seems better and more appropriate for a sport watch and big activity

I'm not married to my opinions and I could see the day of going smaller but not anytime soon. I like that you have both 36mm and 39mm... What is your wrist size? You think you'll keep both? I couldn't resist the 39mm pull!
