The offers continued into the last hour of the auction. He also listed it on Facebook last night as well.

If it's correct, then tbh a scruffy/in need of work watch is about the correct money at the £7000 it made on ebay.
Ps - It probably sold at 80% off listing fees promotion last week, so only about £150 fees. For info - I'd say eBay now use a pretty strong team in Ruislip UK to validate all watches over £1.5k, and they are well clued up I've found (not sure what Australian team are like though), so I'd argue that what with the PayPal safety and their Authenticity Validation, E bay now have upped their game a lot in last year or so.

An update as promised.
So the watch is actually in my hands now but the backstory has some twists and turns. Rewinding back a little - apparently the watch was actually sold last Monday (6-7 days ago / prior to auction close). The friend / contact I bought the watch from paid cash to the seller after inspecting it in person. The seller said it was his grandfather's and part of an inheritance (who knows?). The picture that Oysterfisher posted earlier was actually from the friend. He mentioned the seller requesting a picture of the watch showing 7 o'clock, saying it was when the grandfather would put them to bed and that he wanted to frame it. Following the trail, it's clear someone had ask for a picture of the watch showing a certain time to confirm it was in possession but it had already swapped hands by then - this is the reason why the picture from Oysterfisher shows a clear crystal - the friend had polished the crystal in the meantime! Anyway, I bought the watch from him (he was actually more looking for a 7206 bracelet) for a very fair price. It checks out - all original, thick case, almost perfect dial. I'll post some pictures in due course. |

did you know it was sold before you posted the Ebay thread? When did you have it in your hands? When did you know it was sold and no longer in the ebayers hands? Was it the third party or the seller who told you the serial range? I would hate for any TRF people to have been put at risk when the watch was never actually up for auction... I mean someone has won the auction for 12k Australian, 8k USD - no doubt they will have paid the original seller now and will have to fight him for the money. I do appreciate some situations can be delicate, so please don't take these questions as being accusatory. The original seller was up until this morning trying to sell a watch (that apparently he hasn't had for a week) to a myriad of people. I am not aware of anyone he has successfully scammed, but if you have been stung please let me know - I have the sellers details (bank details and name) and can assist further anyone negatively impacted by the 'sellers' little farce.

Always issues buying vintage from crackheads.
Looking forward to seeing photos of this watch.

Wait. It was listed on eBay as recently as a day ago, with offers coming in. It was also listed on Facebook. It was also mentioned that he was offering it to people for $5K if they picked it up that day. But now you have it in your hands? How? What??

Because the seller was trying to scam people.

He certainly was, very sneaky seller!
Even more concerning, he was even trying to get me to send someone out to him with cash today to pickup - potentially a robbery setup given he didn't have possession of the watch for the last week.

I'm piecing the pieces here slowly and here's my take:
- seller sold the watch within 24 hours of listing (according to my friend, unless he got the days mixed up) - seller continued to entertain offers despite not having the watch, based off messages that Interestedwatcher had posted, even up until as recent as yesterday. - similarly, assume Oysterfisher had asked for the watch to show 7 o clock which the seller provided - though at the point, the watch clearly had swapped hands. - according to Interestedwatcher, seller also asked for bank deposit which I really hope no one transferred. Am I missed anything? Thinking about this again, if anyone has fallen victim here, can you let us know? not sure if that friend of mine made a copy of the sellers details but I can ask. |

I have his FB profile (a warning sign - he has a tattoo on his neck 'crime pays'). , full name his PAYID and his real mobile number (not the one he was texting off) etc. More than enough to get an address if required. So if anyone has been stung - happy to help.

to be honest, I have been in the auction a while,... I do own a 9411 and would like to add this to my collection. But the seller wasted time a few days and didnt sent pictures he wanted to send. I didnt asked for an exact time picture. I asked for a few more fotos in different angles and from every side. I never spoke to him on phone and he didnt offered me the watch out of ebay. As i got the picture, I have been asking, why the crystal was polished and he wrote a strange -not quite intelligent- message. The watch itself is a beauty -in my opinion. But if I would be the new owner, I would have her checked at a Service center, if stolen or not. Cause this person isnt a legit seller for me. Anyway. Sometimes those vintage stuff is in those peoples hands and you will be in need to risk a bit. Nevertheless, Congratulations. Keep me in mind if she has to go (-; Regards |

Talk about a seller being motivated to sell as soon as possible….and in cash…in person…at a very reduced price. Not saying I’d assume this watch “fell off the back of a truck”…
…OK, yeah, that is what I’m assuming. |

Why would the the TRF buyer wait until yesterday to post that the watch was sold?
The "seller" was trying to scam people for days after selling the watch? This whole thing sounds very shady. |

Sounds like a stolen watch imo, which is why he wanted a quick 5k cash sale with no eBay or online history . The grandfather story usually goes along with a stolen watch too.

I have worked with buyer before, never an issue. I have had chats with a few people on this watch. Heck if it was in USA I might have flown to see/buy it (I have more scary friends all over the country would have used as escort). There was some caution indicated in posts, and as everyone here does, not all the cards were put on the table when half the Tudor nuts on this board are chasing the same thing ; ) Seller proved to be EXACTLY what was suspected .

That's the rub, isn't it? Well, one of many rubs with this one.

Not sure why it’s necessary to keep some cards off the table when you’ve already bought the watch. But ok. |

I would say 40% of blue Flake inserts I've owned have had similar marks. The one I posted earlier in this thread does. The one I've had for over a decade does.

Because he hadn't bought the watch. Last night he said someone he knew the seller did not have possession of the watch. Likely he knew earlier. OP was not the guy that bought the watch from the scammer originally. I do know several people that were chasing this - with great caution.

I THINK I’ve (sort of) got a handle on all that’s transpired. And if I am right, Alwayshere, are you feeling confident this isn’t a stolen watch? Whether it’s something that would be difficult to confirm, or not, the backstory screams dubious. Between the “it was my grandfather’s” and wanting to sell it as quickly as possible for a LOT less than its value, I’m not sure I would want anything to do with it. Hope I’m wrong.

I will admit I was also messaging the seller but was torn on whether to pursue more seriously but took on board most of your advice to just stay away. Good point from Kingsface66 thought - the origin of this watch is questionable. If anyone thinks this is stolen or have proof its stolen - reach out directly (I only have the watch, no bracelet though) |

Help YOU, not ourselves. As said, Rolex and the Australian Police will have a way of cross checking the serial# on their data base. |
