I now appreciate Rolex
Hello everyone,
I am sure you've heard this before. "Everyone and their mother has a rollie" If not, that was my mindset with the brand Rolex for the longest time. Ive discovered my passion for watches at a fairly young age of 12 when my father handed me his Omega Seamaster and although it was given to me, i was not allowed to wear it, let alone have it kept in my room. Being the mechanical junkie engineer that he is, he wanted to share with me how watches can be considered living things with its own heart that is purely mechanical. Years go on and after dismantling a good amount of movements, i started purchasing. I knew i wanted something "nicer" but did not want something too common. Didnt want to sit in classrooms or conference rooms wearing the same watch as the next guy. So my first purchase was actually a bell & ross. Then a few panerais. Then moved on to hublot when tudor came out with the pelagos. Oh my. To this date, i believe the pelagos is the most practical, most functional, most well designed diver. The tudor made me realize and appreciate the Rolex brand. I mean the volume with such high level of quality. This is not the mass production you hear of in any other industry. Not only that, but to be a private brand with such history and r&d with the fan base, rolex must be the most intriguing establishment ive ever come across. Ok ok so now after all the rolex hating, ive purchased my first rolex. A polar 216570, and man what the heck was i thinking before. I first want to ask all of you for forgiveness for my lack of appreciation so far. And as i have with other watch forums, i hope to learn as much as i can through here. Thank you guys in advance for everything!!! |

I think all the mainstream brands have upped their quality in recent history, but you can grab a Rolex from 1970 and a King Seiko from 1970 and I think you will agree that Seiko has always brought their A-game. |

You are forgiven my son.
Welcome to TRF. Ps. Some of your previous choice weren't that bad, the Pelagos is a killer watch.
