I can understand how weight is a parameter for insurance companies but do they give your brownie points if bolted to the floor?

Since you live in America, a gun safe would probably be a better option. Those are all well-above 150 kilos.

If you want to go balls-out on a safe, buy a Buben & Zorweg. They do cost an arm and a leg.

The heavier the better. More layers of steel in the door and sidewalls, makes it less vulnerable to a breach. Add a layer of stainless steel and now you have significant fire protection. The weight also makes it less likely to be stolen. There are home safes (vaults) that weigh 1-2 tons.

Fort Knox is the best in the business here in the USA, IMO. You can customize it how you want it and the higher end ones are definitely show pieces.

Certainly an investment and its not easy to upgrade if you need more, soo.. Build as much as your budget allows, you really only buy once anyway.

From my experience they have to be bolted down to be rated.

I don’t want some ugly safe and I really enjoy displaying my collection. Any recommendations on elegant safes would be appreciated!

You need a Eurograde 2 safe for that amount of value.

Near where I live there have been some nasty burglaries in the last year where the thieves beat up the wife until the husband opens the safe, certainly a good reason to not spec the safe with a time delay mechanism.

As an insurance company USAA is excellent, but the people answering the phones are clueless.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing these pics

Just thinking how your insurer arrive at the insured value of your 5711/1p. There are not too many out there and the value must be close to 1m, or maybe more.

Exactly...not too many out there(less than the number of fingers on one hand). Let’s just say they look at valuation referencing recent sales and of course most sales are on the regular 5711/1P version without the T-stamp. Basically, it is under insured if you ask me...

Example sale of 5711/1P:

Agreed. I think there would be a premium on the T-stamp 5711/1P given its scarcer. To me, yours is a 1m dollar watch.

Hmm...referencing to some of the letters on the watch bottom? You have a 1/1 in my humble opinion.

I'm another Brown Safe "Man Safe" owner. Half the price of a Buben with twice the utility, big fan of their product. https://www.brownsafe.com/man-safe/m...ange_6024.html is the one I bought, customized exactly the way I wanted for about $35k including delivery.

I might be paranoid but I would def not post pics of your home safe with 7 figures in contents on the internet. You are asking to be targeted.

How is someone going to target an anonymous person on a watch forum?

Check out Regal Vaults, beautiful luxurious safes and a fraction of the brown safes (which are awesome also).

This is the safe that I have, it’s basically a £2,500 safe that has been customised (pimped).

Yep pretty good value then, I’ve seen the quality of the finishes and the work that must go into them, good value for money in my opinion.

Buy the safe but don't put your watches in it. Insure the safe. That way when the safe gets stolen but nothing else (as the thieves think they hit paydirt) you can recover its value from the insurance carrier. Your watches were always hidden somewhere else safe and sound.

That’s what I do now...have the safe but the most valuable pieces go to the bank. That way I’m protected...

Honestly I do not know but if people want to find you and they are skilled enough with a computer I personally believe they can. Maybe I sound like a tin hat fool IDK.

Nah, I was just hoping I wasn’t the one being foolish! I’ve heard a couple other people make these statements and I thought maybe I was being delusional about being pretty much anonymous

Well because it is much easier to wear a piece when it’s not locked in a bank.
