Picked up a 1999 GMT2 in great shape that has not been serviced by an RSC, unknown if it has been serviced by anyone else. Been wearing it for a week and was running +20-30 a day for the first few days and has now settled in at about +10 sec per day. Unknown if it has been stored or worn in the past. Is a week long enough for it to settle in? Debating servicing to make sure it has good gaskets anyway.

try one month, also rest the watch in different positions at night and see.

If I were you I would get it serviced some time in the next couple of months so you know where you started from. Enjoy.

I’d want new gaskets if you don’t know the last service date and it’s likely to be 10+ years even if the timekeeping settles to within spec. If you plan to get it wet anyways.

A 20 year old watch should not need to "settle down".

If you have wound it fully, and it exhibits erratic time keeping, something this old is likely suffering from lack of oil someplace, or dry pallet grease, or the like.

I picked up a Turn-O-Graph from 1986 a few weeks ago.

I immediately sent it in for a full service.

The previous owner, whom I know, said it had been at least ten years since it was last serviced.

LA Watchworks gave me an estimate of $700, including a new mainspring.

I consider that money well spent.

I wouldn't obsess, just wear it until the time difference is noticeable without your computer.

Yea just adjust the time when needed. Its not like that's hard to do.

Physical condition, price, and pedigree was right. Knew it would need a service in the short term.

This. I bought a 10 year old sub that was practically unworn but it was about +10 with low amplitude. Took it in for a look and it was dry inside; which can exacerbate wear. After service it is about +1.5-2. FWIW, they said the seals were fine and it was still waterproof but replaced them anyway as part of the service.

Looks good to me. Mine has been about 10 seconds fast since I got it in 2011 when it was only 5 years old.

I have read several problems at the RSC’s lately. Am I better off with another route? The AD at the Wynn has a watchmaker they said could service it in house.
