It’s a mass produced watch that will be made for probably another 10 years + at a MSRP much lower than used pricing. One little economic slowdown and they’ll be selling $10k at the most. We’ve all been getting a little carried away with these “limited” LVc, BLRO and BLNRs and treating them like they’re SS Daytonas

Yea... just wait. When we buy at these outrageous prices the greys offer, this is what sets the market price. Its a business, they bought at a markup over msrp most likeky, let them suffer by holding out, prices will come down

yea, its Christmas, you're probably half in the bag and now you want to overpay for a watch. Have a cup of coffee and come to your senses. Don't get caught up in the hype.

I'd wait. Stupid expensive for non-PM watches. Big pass for me at these prices. YMMV

I don't totally understand this part of your answer. Aren't SS Daytona's just mass produced SS watches as well? They've been making white and black Daytonas for a very long time, so why should they be worth such a high premium while the GMT's aren't? In fact, IMO it's far more likely that they will discontinue the Hulk or the BLNR than either version of the Daytona.

I'm not sure what advice to give...this is a personal decision based on desire, financial ability, and market conditions. Beautiful watch though. Full disclosure: I passed on a Root Beer and a Batgirl recently at my AD. Realistic decisions for my life circumstances...need to stay married, get the kids through school, and save and be ready for my Hulk (which will be announcing its presence soon enough!)

Good luck!

Ben

Don't do it, you'll be supporting the inflated price. Hold off until the market softens, or wait until you get one from the AD.

I'm hoping more Pepsi production from Rolex, just like the Batgirl. The Batgirl has dramatically reduced in the Grey Market. I'm hoping it reduces even further.

NOTE: If Rolex discontinues the Pepsi next Basel World, my apologies...LOL!

At least wait until the new shipments start late next month because that might have an affect on pricing in your favor. No matter what wait until after Christmas. It’s a beautiful watch and I own one but I would not have paid more than MSRP.

Well that they are but not to the same level as GMTs and Subs. Daytonas for the last 25 years haven’t really sat in AD displays waiting for buyers. Subs and GMTs have up until the craziness coming from HK and China that has since died down. The 4130 is a more costly movement just like the Sky D in Rolesor. The GMT and Date are really just add on modules to the base movements from the 31xx and 32xx movement series. If the YM2 wasn’t such a quirky function and large size,I wouldn’t be surprised if the same happened with it as the Daytona and SkyD.

What’s the premium?

If it’s worth it to you and want it that bad, consider it. But know that the hype will die down.

What about the Blue YM? You can get it grey and pocket 7k. Would that satisfy the blue/red urge? I think the YM is gorgeous.

I’m not sure I agree with “let them suffer”. They provide a service that follows the market. As you indicated they likely paid more than MSRP. Their margins are much smaller than an AD. But the reality is they provide something the AD’s can’t or won’t.

For the OP, I’m starting to feel like if it’s not attainable anywhere else for you and you know it’s the one you want, go for it - assuming it works for you financially.

Many ADs sell to grey dealers at MSRP and pretend to not know they're a grey, and are just "VIP customers"

MSRP is only an artificial construction. The price is what it is worth it to you. If you can afford it and really want it, buy it. Do not let the naysayers guilt you out of it. You have worked hard for your money, so get some pleasure out of it. Other people spend, or over-spend, on other things that are important to them. Spend YOUR money on what's important to YOU.

When I was contemplating if I should buy the CHNR being offered or add couple of more thousand dollars and just buy the BLRO at grey prices, I decided to buy the CHNR. I can wait for BLRO as I have GMT IIc LN and BLNR (previous gen.). This is also partially fuel by my personal preference of the two GMTs I have. I believe they are much more appealing to me than the BLRO. Or, since I can’t have it yet, I am justifying the reason to wait.

If you can wait, I would recommend to do so. The grey market price is way out of line at this point.

Rolex will probably release Coke (RONR) and new Subs in Baselworld 2020.

And so, wait just a few months and see.

Just ask yourself how you will feel when the prices come back down to reality, or at list price from an AD and you way overpaid for it.

If money is not a concern, then go for it.

Agreed ... plus I really don’t get the appeal of Daytona’s at all. The steel models look like dated designs. Contrast, chrome rings,... Total yawn-fest compared to IWC pilot ceramic chrono or Omega SM or SP or Seiko, or ...., etc, etc.

Maybe a good economic downturn will break the trance.

If when you look down at that watch knowing MANY others bought it for 1/2 of what you did and you can still enjoy it then go ahead. I could not. I would never enjoy the watch under those circumstances. The rest of my life would be a long time to feel foolish.
