Oscar nominations revealed.

Not everyone is interested of course, but this year is very nice IMO. I've watched the main contenders and I think "The Irishman" will win best picture with Martin Scorsese best director, and Joaquin Phoenix best actor. Although I really liked Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", IMHO the competition is very strong this year and "The Irishman" will prevail but I could be totally wrong. What's your take?

This may sound ridiculous, but I think the Irishman's length should bar it and Scorsese from winning. I think he should have done a much better job managing the time and pace of that movie.

For me, Joker should win best picture, although I doubt it will.

Irishman was such a miss I can't figure out how it's getting so much praise. I don't know anyone personally that gives it better than, "it was...alright?" lol. Very much enjoyed Joker and Once Upon a Time. I cannot believe Sandler got snubbed though.

Not ridiculous at all. It was a bit difficult to watch due to it's length. I've enjoyed the Joker much more but I'm afraid it's still a comic book movie and while brilliantly executed it may fail to win a more traditional contender.

I believe every modern movie I have seen could be cut by thirty minutes. Directors are given free rein and make vanity movies. They need a ruthless editor.

Thirty minutes would be a Tv show, John. But I get your point.

Irishman was mediocre at best... but that doesn't stop the academy from awarding a film.

I'm a huge movie person and enjoy watching or following this each year! Some great films made and nominated, for sure.

If a movie is 2 1/2 hours long and you cut to 2 hours, that is a TV show? Anyway, most movies are too long IMO.

You're right. I should improve my reading skills.

Haven't seen Little Women, 1917, or Ford vs Ferrari, but I'm going with Parasite for best picture.

Don't think it will win though.

The Oscars are a joke.

The average movie nowadays is 2 hours. It is an appropriate time for a movie, IMO.
May I say Joker was riveting and the acting was incredible.

I’d love to see “Once upon a Time in Hollywood” get more love. I thought Pitt and DiCaprio were great together.

Phoenix as the Joker should get best actor imo. Overall the move was okay but he was amazing

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood started great but I was really disillusioned at the end. Might be because I lived threw it but the ending made no sense at all to me.

A shame because the performances were enjoyable and typically love QT movies.

It was a big surprise for me too but you used a better word to describe it my friend.

If The Irishman was directed by anyone else it would never have gotten all these nominations. It was a good movie but far from great and definitely not up to Scorsese's usual standards. Entirely too long. Clip and hour from it and maybe I'm a fan.

Joker to me was the best actor and best movie of the year. 1917 a close second for best picture in my mind.

I also think "Parasite" is the best picture. But a subtitled movie will only win in the Best Foreign Film category.

The Oscars are only a local event, unlike such truly international events as the Cannes.

I quit going to movies years ago. The last time I was in a theater was to see a French film with a French leading actress. The last American movie was Out of Africa. As the “true” Hollywood stars have faded, so has my interest. The latest crop of stars in the past twenty five years leave me cold as well as their movies. I stopped watching the Oscars when Bob Hope ceased being master of ceremonies.
