Ski Watch...

Hi all

What watch do you wear for skiing? tend to wear my Sea Dweller or Speedmaster, but tempted to mix it up a bit this year.

I know there are a bunch of people that will say “why wear something expensive when there is no need to take the risk” and it’s a fair point, but that just isn’t the way I live my life.

So, please share...

Sea-Dweller or Explorer II polar with Polar advantage due to slimmer profile.

Would feel naked at the after-ski without..

I’ve always worn a watch while skiing however a friend of mine lost his Rolex recently whilst skiing and didn’t realise until the end of the day.

The physicist in me may be wrong but I have never worried about my watches skiing.

Compared to a watch falling on a hard floor from 3 or 5 feet up I expect the peak force to be much smaller when taking a typical fall while skiing. The involved speeds are somewhat higher but you don't come to an abrupt stop, your arms are dangling around, there is some protection from your clothes...

Climbing is a different story and I ruined the case of one of my watches when a hike turned into a climb...

20 years with an Aquanaut. No problems. Body gave out before the watch.

Would you share any pictures of the watch, sounds like you wear it as it should be worn, love to see Patek and AP on ‘worn’ condition.

I wear my Fenix and use the large Velcro strap so it can go on the outside of my coat. It has a ski function that keeps track of my runs and a map of where I have gone.

If I didn’t use that, I’d wear my aquanaut. I rarely fall and with my coat and gloves there’s at least some padding. A sport Rolex would probably be even better.

Nice thread - was just thinking about this as I have a trip planned next month- decided I will bring my polar exp2 16570- small/slim, gmt function, great legibility. Still deciding whether to wear on NATO/fabric (have it on an ErikaMN now) or change back to bracelet- leaning toward bracelet as the fabric would prob get soaked from sweat.

I don't love going out with my nicest pieces, and I also think it makes sense to go with a watch that can take a bit of a beating. Spills, knocks, snow, it should be able to handle a bit of a rough environment. Personally, I don't want to ski with a bracelet - I want something a little softer that has some more flex as I think it would be more comfortable.

Last year I took out an omega Speedmaster on a NATO strap. This year I think I'll go with my IWC Mark XVIII on leather.

This isn't me, but was in the local paper.

I personally find a thinner watch is more comfortable for getting under the cuff of my gloves. As someone else mentioned, a rubber strap with some stretch is nice.

I use a Fenix also but I took it off the straps and use a lanyard attached to the strap bars and clip it inside my ski jacket pocket. A pocket watch set up... I like using it to track ski runs and send the data to Strava.

On my wrist is usually wear a Polar Explorer but recently wore this after I forgot to take it off after a meeting at a bank

Back from the trip to Japan, and just as planned, I had my Pelagos on the wrist. It handled things with no issues at all:
