I started typing that G Shocks are underrated, but they actually aren't - those who have had them/have them all speak highly of them. If your duty is active, which is different than active duty, G Shock would get my vote.

I love my G Shocks for what they are. They are extremely tough and not very expensive. I have to say though as far as accuracy/reliability of timekeeping I find them leaving something to be desired. My mechanical Rolex seem to be much more accurate over time.

I think the best G-Shock to get are ones that are Solar / Atomic. The one I have is about 10 years old and I actually keep in on a window ledge so that it gets some sun and gets access to the radio waves to calibrate its signal with Ft. Collins.

Probably a g shock, although I couldn’t really imagine wearing one, now I’m no longer a teenager. Garmin, Suunto need to be charged too often. So, probably the CWC with fixed bars, or maybe a Marathon with tritium tubes. If Rolex, I think the submariner or explorer II would be most practical.

I am active duty Air Force, I wear a suunto core/gshock 5600 everyday in uniform. Occasionally my sub 14060m but not daily for sure. I am in an office environment so if you are going to go Rolex i would recommend something with a date if you are doing a lot of paperwork etc.
I could see myself wearing a date sub daily. Best for all around would be sub, or any of the explorer series IMO. If you fly and travel a lot GMT. |

HRH, Prince Harry and his Rolex Explorer II
When He was.... Prince Harry wore a Exporer II
For the price id opt for a Tissot Sea Star (as I own one) rather than bash up one of my Rolex's

I wore a 34 mm OP. No date, no reason to unscrew the crown. I was a field soldier and it got the snot beat out of it. This time around, I'd go for a 36 mm or 39 mm Explorer I.

Like everyone said it depends on your job. Lots of nice watches floating around in Navy Ready Rooms - Rolexes, Breitlings, and Bremonts are probably the most prevalent, although you’re just as likely to see guys wearing Garmin GPS watches as well as long as you’re not working in classified areas.
Personally I wear my BLNR if I’m doing work on the ground but I wear a cheap G-shock when I’m flying. |

Explorer II
- highly legible - GMT function - indestructible bezel - date function - tough bracelet and case Only wish it had triplock crown and greater depth rating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Complex question - but the varied roles outlined by posts (and the demands on the watch) show the breadth of models that could fit.

A lot of good suggestions already posted, but I came up with a new one:
A Breitling Emergency Did a quick google search, and Breitling actually still makes those. Quite expensive I might add as well. A friend of mine was going to buy one about 15 years ago, and the dealer explained that as a buyer / owner of one, he'd have to sign documents stating he'd not "push the button" unless in dire need, such as a plane emergency. He never did buy it. |

Take a look at MTM watches. Built like tanks with some cool features. Have one for years.

Most suited watch for active duty military?

I served with an F-18 Hornet pilot (Captain “Lex” Lefon) who wore a Breitling Emergency. He said he might someday need that emergency signal. Huge watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Explorer 1 or Tudor Black Bay 36 / 41 depending on your wrist size and indeed budget.

Gshock or Apple Watch are what I see the most of. I wear a Seiko Diver, not many enlisted can afford to buy a 8k sub to work in. Especially since they used to cost about 1 month salary and not so much any more. Not many military members are bringing home 8k a month.

As an active duty pilot I wear my GMT master II. Before that I was wearing my Speedmaster. I used to wear a Garmin Fenix5 but due to having classified spaces that became a pain so I stopped that. The GMT is great with all the traveling and constantly switching between local and Zulu time. I wish I purchased the GMT years ago.

My friend was in the SF community. He wore his 5513 Sub for 13 years through numerous tours and in combat. No problems. I wore my 11600 SeaDweller for a year in AFG. Never a problem. My son is stationed abroad and his new Sub gets beat up regularly. Any SS model (Explorer, GMT, Sub, SD) will be fine.

Most suited watch for active duty military?
I wore a Sub 14060 for 8 years as a PMC. I knew a couple of guys who had GMTs, but the Sub/SD was preferred by those who wore Rolex.

I would say the sea dweller or the explorer. I think those are at the top of the toughest out there.

Nothing on bracelet if you run a lot. It hurts.
