Forget the 16550 unless you got a fetish. Paying for grail type collectability. 16570 should do the trick absent a fetish. And then keep 3 of your 7

Forget the individual selling. Too hard. Gonna get scammed. Dump the lot n some reseller and move on.

Hope this is no another member here that is trying to pull you over the table ? Don't do it.
Just sell your watches individually and you will end up with more money in the pocket. Or maybe a view extra watches in your drawer.

My good man, just buy the old explorer for $6-8K and DON’T trade in your collection....
Exactly what I was thinking. I'd say that Ulysse Nardin alone is worth more than the trade value you are getting for all 7 watches combined. Hard pass.

Doesn't surprise me. Think of the extra 5K as payment for attempting to shift that lot.

Where are you trying to sell them? This would not be the place imo, but there are other similar places that might give you better results.

I do think that consolidating many lesser value pieces to obtain one much nicer piece is the right move. I've done this myself on numerous occasions. I believe I sold 14 cheaper watches to pay for my first Rolex. But you need to make sure you aren't being hasty and losing a boatload of value. Your time has value absolutely, so consider that into the equation. But I think you could easily get $2k out of just the FC Runabout and the UN Marine. That plus your cash gets you a 16550. Then you've got easily another $1500 in resale amongst the remaining watches. And I'm talking about "priced to move" listings, not "wait and grind it out to get top dollar" listings.

Whats the purchase value of the watch?

I'd put your seven up as a job lot, with a price that makes your change over fee 2 - 3 k, that then gets them all shifted quickly, and then a reseller can sit on them for a year or two to extract a bit more money out of them etc.

Throw your stuff on eBay. Not much in terms of quality but there’s always someone looking for your stuff.

Round up all the cash and buy with cash on hand.

You’re getting the crappy end of the stick on that deal.

I am trading the following watches plus $5,000 for Rolex 16550 with all originals parts from very reputable source.
Let me hear your opinions.

Frederique Constant Runabout, Model FC-720RM6B6
Frederique Constant Slim Line, Model FC-703S3S6
Vulcain Cricket X-TREME World Time Alarm, Model 161925.163
Perrelet Turbine, Model XL A1051/1
Louis Vuitton, Tambour Regatta Navy, Q102D
Ulysse Nardin, Marine 263-22
TAG Heuer, Formula 1 Chronograph, McLaren Edition CAZ1112.FC8188

You're a pledge member so I think if you snap a few pics and sell them in the non Rolex forum you'll do way better. Sounds like a terrible deal to me. Post pics here if you have them out.

I'd keep the $5K. Take some time to add to it, and buy the Explorer outright. Then you would have a very nice watch collection.

Problem with these lower end models is there is not a big enough customer base to easily sell them on if you wish to.

Better to give the headaches to a dealer. Yes your gonna get low balled but at least you will get some money back.

Which 16550? Is the dial original?

Certain versions (eg cream/rail dial) are highly sought after and worth close to $20k, and even more with box and papers.

What exactly are you getting? It could be a steal for all those cats and dogs.

As stated the number do not work. Sell the most valuable pieces here and see where you are. It will be less than 5k for the watch. I would contact the seller and see if he could do better.

If you have patience then it can be possible to sell unpopular watches. Many moons ago I found out the hard way how hard it can be to sell things like B&R and unloved Breitling models. You just need to find the right person.

If you gave those watches away for even half of the value you would likely still have more cash eventually.

I was able to work a 3 for 1 once with a local AD that has a good supply of medium/lower end watches in the used sale case. Find someone who specializes in them and try it.

Good luck!

Five grand on top of seven watches ?!?!! I can't begin to compare prices of your watches but it says a lot about the value of Rolex.

From a business standpoint, the transaction makes sense. I’d try to negotiate the cash going the other way but I wouldn’t be surprised if the dealer doesn’t budge. It’ll take quite some time, IMO, for the dealer to move your watches due to the uncertainty in the market.

All that being said, I’d do that deal anytime as long as I’m in the position to spend the 5k (I assume your watches do not have too high of a sentimental value anyway given it was gathering dust for a couple of years). As metioned by others previously, it’s all about quality over quantity. Good luck!

I hear ya, looked up your same watches on the bay, honestly even at a lower price point, you still have a good 5k worth of value in them. I love the Explorer II transitional 16550. My black dial, unpolished, watch only, cost me 7k. I also have a polar, watch only, lightly polished bought for 7500. I would do the trade plus 2500 to save myself the hassle of listing each watch for sale and having to deal with the headache that process entails.

You’re going to miss a couple of those watches for sure once you settle in to your Rolex. It’s natural. Do a trade but Keep a couple.
