If the Datejust that Hans Wilsdorf gifted to Churchill
Came on the open market, (through an auction based sale) would you try and buy it?
How much do you think it could fetch? Would Rolex try and buy it for their own museum? Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk |

Newman Daytona sold for 17.75M USD including the buyer's premium. One could argue that the DJ is way more significant and therefore would sell for more. So no, I wouldn't be trying to buy it. Even if it was cheaper than the Newman by a factor of 10 I still wouldn't. As for Rolex buying it back to put it in the museum, that would make sense.

I'm never interested in owning something based on its provenance. However, I do think it's cool to read about iconic personal items with historical figures.
