Internal case markings help - 16800
Hi,
New to the forum and I own a 16800 from 1980. Yesterday I took the back off for the first time and noticed internal service/jeweller markings that say "Z187" or "2187" Can anyone shed any light on this? I assume they're from 1987 - watch is from 1980 so a service in '87 would make sense....but the Z1/21 element is confusing. I have pics but cannot post them as I'm new! Thanks in advance |

Each watchmaker has their own unique way for their service marking on the case back. I think not that straight forward to interpret it. But I think you are quite right about the the watch may be serviced in ‘87.
The 1980 16800 should be matte dial and one of my favorite reference. The 16800 matte dial is best of both vintage and modern worlds. Can’t go wrong with 16800. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The marking is the ID of the watchmaker.
Sorry, Mineral, we posted at the same time.

Ok cool - thanks for the quick replies. I know it was serviced in 2000 by Rolex but I didn't know it had been touched before that date so was a nice surprise.
Thanks again |

Also noticed a serial number on the movement itself. Never noticed that before and I see (via google images) that these numbers are different on each watch.
Do they mean anything? Thanks |

Ha!
Done a quick search and apparently they're put on as part of COSC certification but not sure I can search for info on them. |
