I was totally kidding. You will have a wonderful heirloom to cherish.

I would part with my DJ41 long before i would sell my heirloom Day-Date 1803.

There are going to be some delays on the service. My watch maker is recovering from an injury. Hopefully we have some news in the coming week or so.

Must be my lucky day finding this thread. I've spent a decade or so on another forum dedicated to vintage lightweight bicycles; my favorite threads there have always been interesting restorations of high-end, handmade bikes. This here thread is the same, but even better with the family heirloom angle.

I hope to see more of these in future and along with everybody else look forward with great anticipation to the reveal of the watchhead soon.

Every time I check in I find something interesting. I think I will stick around a little while.

Just read through the whole thing and glad I did. Really great that you're keeping and restoring the watch.

I'd just add that the dial that's been restored is a 'maxi mk1' that would have been the contemporary 5513 dial at the time of the 1978 service, so that all ties in.

Awesome, thank you! The bracelet I am getting restored seems to be in the same boat. Its from 1971 but its pieces were in the box, so it must have been put on in 78 also.

Also massive thank you again to Filipao for the links. I cant thank you enough. I never expected to have my step fathers bracelet restored. It means a lot to me as he wore it in this bracelet and wore it to pieces. I cannot wait to have it back on its bracelet again. Anyhow, not long to go now. I cannot wait to see how this all turned out. It feels like we've been waiting for years instead of months!

Not to derail the thread, but I wish I hadn't dumped my old 1970s racer decked out with Shimano parts. Might be worth a bit now.

This thread is awesome. I have seen several hard working rolex's through my years and have always loved them for what they stood for and the guys that owned them. This thread is a great story and a meaningful one to many of us that have a pass down piece from a loved one. Congrats on the watch (cant wait to see the outcome) and on the memories that it will continue to bring to you for your life time.

Thank you mate! Hopefully I will have some photos in the coming days. I have asked for some progress photos, so we might finally have some visual content here.

No, it wouldn't have looked like a crusty old piece with 56 years of mileage on it.
