Guys...let us remember 9/11

Hi guys,

First of all, this is NOT meant to be a political thread and should not degenerate into one. Thanks!

Instead, let us pay homage to the thousands who were mercilessly slaughtered that fateful day. Our prayers and thoughts go out to their near and dear loved ones.

Amen!!

I'd just as soon not remember that day, but that feeling's just as fresh as it was five years ago.

We'd had too good a run - Entebbe, the Iranian Embassy, a whole string of successful CT ops. The playbook was in its umpteenth edition, and all of us who knew it knew that once the balloon went up, it would be over for the bad guys within minutes if not seconds. We were so damned cocksure. Yet, at the back of my mind, there was always this little quiet nagging doubt: "It all hinges on them making demands and wanting to negotiate. What if they stop wanting to negotiate?".

I was on another forum that night and saw a whole lot of messages going, "WTF is going on in New York?". I turned on the telly just in time to see the second tower get hit. I felt this chunk of ice at the bottom of my stomach and thought, "My God, the bastards finally got smart".

Five years on, everything else is a blur, but that feeling's still clear as day.

I'll never, ever forget the moment I saw that tragedy. I had just had my right knee scoped and was out injured from work. I was on crutches and hobbled my way from the bedroom to the kitchen to make coffee. As I did, the T.V. was on and they were showing the first stricken tower with smoke billowing from it. It appeared to be an accident at that time. As I made my way back out into the living room and sat in the recliner the second plane struck. I was awe struck. I've seen a lot of weird, bad sh!t thus far and nothing ever made me feel like that. I felt sick, rage, helpless and numb all at the same time.

Like you said, JJ, political beliefs and feelings aside. May we never forget the innocent victims and the heroes who gave all trying to save them that day. No non-combatants should be targeted like that, here or anywhere else in the world, I raise my glass to all of them and I will certainly never forget

Where were you when the world stopped turning?

Do you remember that song? I remember where I was. It was before work and my wife and I watched the events on TV. I knew it was war. I knew I would get the call to serve again one day. And I knew it would mean the end of my marriage. I was right on all three counts.

Today I live in Tampa, Florida, serving at CENTCOM. I have friends locally, online, and back in California too. I am scheduled for some military schools in various locations. I am undergoing other types of training as well. It is a whole new life. And just as anyone would, I am making the best of it.

My life has changed but not like it has for some friends. I lost two more buddies over the weekend. Their families will never be the same. It is their personal 9/11.

Where ever you were, whatever you were doing, I know you have had changes happen. But the measure of a man is not how much it changed you, but now much you have adapted yourself.

I hope who ever you are, where ever you are, you have made yourself a better person in light of the circumstances.

Just don't ever forget! Not in a retalitory sense, but honor the men, women and children that lost their lives that day in NY, DC and PA.

God rest their souls and may we find a way to improve this world we live in.
