Water damage?

Hi i dont know why i tried it but i did. I put my seamaster under hot water them under cold water amd the inside of the crystal misted slightly for about 15/20 seconds. I then but cold water over it from room temperature and it done the same. Is this normal. The watch is only 1 year old and i brought it privately. What do you guys think?

Not normal. Time for a service. Or atleast take it to a watchmaker to get it dried out properly to minimize damage.

I think that you should stop torturing that poor watch.

I’m trying to rationalize what you did to your Rolex. I’m having a difficult time though.

Sounds like what "should" happen when the air in a sealed space gets heated and rapidly cooled, but still not a good thing. I'd assume this condensation is going to lead to some type of rust. I agree with the above posts saying - time for service.

As the watch is only a year old would this be covered under the warranty. I only just brought the watch on chrono so dont no its history.

Your watch idea is fine.

Even atmospheric humidity will give you condensation at dew point.

Enjoy wearing it.

First cannot understand why you done this to your watch, but condensation on the inside of the crystal is generally an indication that there may be a problem but it your case would doubt if you have any problem. Now condensation will quite normally occur when any warm/hot watch is suddenly exposed to a cold environment i.e. if you enter cold air/water then shortly after warm/hot water or visa versa. In normal circumstances this will appear as a very fine mist and should disappear in seconds, minutes, or a hour or so when the watch warms up. This is quite normal as the air trapped inside your watch after say a service will have a small amount of water vapour as its just like normal humidity in the atmosphere, if it disappears quickly all is well. Now if the misting appears as clearly definable droplets of water and does not clear quickly when warm, then it signifies that water has entered the case. Now this will NOT evaporate of its own accord and will need to be removed then afraid its off to service as soon as possible.

It seems to happen when just running cold water over it to clean it. It is very slight and disappears after 10 seconds or so. Would you leave it or have it sent off. It doesnt happen to my sub. Thanks

Doesn’t sound right to me. Send it off. It will be worth it for peace of mind if nothing else.

Simple answer run slightly warm water as if watch has been on the wrist it will have the heat from your own body temperature. Like you say it only last a few seconds then your watch should be fine, but as most non essential stores are closed just keep it out of water. When things reopen a simple high street dry pressure check even to 100-200m if it passes watch is fine .

Heres a photo after placing an ice cube on the crystal. Do you think i have any chance returning the watch as it was brought last week privately off chrono. If not off to omega hopefully they cover it with the warranty.

Looks like something is wrong, but it’s concerning even if not.

That is about what I would expect if you put an ice cube on the face.

Well on that basis:

The air inside of your watch contains a certain degree of water ( humidity).

If you heat up the case and put a cold icecube outside or cold water on the crystal, you‘ll get water fallout at that spot because the the air there can‘t carry the water anymore.

It‘s a normal physical effect, you see this when you go into your cold car and breathe warm air out.

First of all stop this right now!! You're obsessing about a "No Problem" problem. Simple physics explains what you're creating. No reason to send it to Omega or returning to seller. Please re-read Padi's posts.

With extreme changes you should expect condensation. Rolex and omega do not assemble their watches in a vacuum free of humidity.

Take it for a pressure test to be sure the seal is good. I would stop doing the experiments as the condensation could leave a visible water line upon evaporation.

Just been doing an experiment on my speedmaster it fogged up that too. Must be an omega thing because it doesn't happen on the rolex.

I advise you stop putting your watches through non realistic stress tests.
