White gold question and immanent arrival.

My blueberry white gold 41mm submariner arrived at my dealer last month and I've not been able to pick it up due to work constraints.

Finally arranged to collect it in a few weeks time.

This is not my first white gold piece and just wondering what the exact composition of Rolex's white gold is.

Obviously I know it contains 75% pure gold hence 18ct but what about the other 25%?

Thanks in advance for answers.

White gold question and immanent arrival.

Remaining 25% is a mix of palladium and platinum.

Also, congratulations.

Why can't the dealer send it to your home?

Only Rolex knows and they will not tell you apart from what’s listed on their web site.
They mention Silver, Platinum or Palladium and than some

Is that what we’re calling these...Blueberry?

Congrats in advance for when you pick it up...it’s weird at the moment buying watches! I’ve got a couple I need to collect and whilst I’m eager to collect, I’m also content on waiting for the stores to officially reopen and go and collect then.

Thanks guys.

Rolex can't be posted by their AD's in the UK.

Also, the stores are technically closed due to the covid lockdowns but they allow collection. Click and collect so to speak, not that you can click on a Rolex.

This was originally ordered in November (or ROI as they make you do now) and arrived at the dealer middle of last December.

I paid for it last month in full just in case of any price increases which were rumoured to take place in early January. A 5% increase in this piece would have meant another almost £1,600 GBP which I really didn't fancy paying.

That didn't materialise but there's no doubt it will happen this year.

Sorry I can’t answer your question, but I love this piece. Well done! As soon as I saw it I fell in love with it. Haven’t decided if I want a white gold piece right now, but this would be it. Wear in good health

White gold question and immanent arrival.

Very nice! Congrats!

Out of curiosity is this bezel the same blue as the BLNR? Or is it brighter?

I believe there is a dash of silver in with the platinum and palladium.

As far as I know, Rolex's 18K white gold consists of 75.1% gold, ~22% palladium, ~1.5% each zirconium and niobium. It also contains trace amounts of 0.002% to 0.006% rhenium. While the addition of copper and silver would improve malleability, Rolex refrains from that to ensure that the material does not oxidize/patinize as easily.

XRF analysis of a WG Daytona
I couple of people have asked what individual metals make up the actual alloys of various Rolexes, specifically the WG versions.

I was in a coin shop the other day and we were talking about testing the purities of various gold coins when it occurred to me that I could have my WG Daytona tested too. (XRF scanning is a non-invasive procedure, so the coin (or watch) is not damaged.)

The results of the spot we tested are below:
Gold 78.5%
Palladium 14.0%
Copper 7.8%
Silver - trace amounts

I'm not sure why the gold portion is not exactly or near 75% (as it should be), but maybe it has something to do with the unevenness of the way the alloy is mixed. Maybe a metallurgist or chemist can weigh in?

But I always wondered what made up the 1 part in 4 on a white gold Rolex that was not gold, and there you have it: Palladium and copper.

Nice choice Eric.

There should probably be a patent filed that would list the properties.

It makes me wish you could obtain a blue bezel on the SS model. Not a fan of the green.
