5513 Spider from '86

Really excited about this one! Just got it back from LAWW. They did the case and polish. How does it look? Any issues that you can see? I think the insert is correct for '86...

I love spiders. I know they are an acquired taste, but I love the look, the history and the lower price ; ) I collect guitars, so this look is very familiar to me. I also love the early gilt dials which did this as well. Some say they are "damaged", but I say they are as designed for the period. Anything that faded or changed its appearance was a defect to Rolex, so that would include "tropical" dials and such. But, I love those too! This is just what mid to late 80's Rolex's often did. Did they want them to craze? Absolutely not. They made new dials with more plasticizer in the lacquer (just like guitar finishes that crazed). But I find old crazed guitars and watches far more interesting to look at. And, they don't flake. The bronze dial just expanded and cracked the rigid lacquer. The pressure releases when it moves, but it doesn't stop adhering. Finding one that hasn't been changed out is what I enjoy. Not saying they deserve a premium, BTW.

Anyway, thoughts?

Thanks so much.

Brian

It definitely does have an attractive spider web pattern. Looks very sharp with a nice patina!
