3861 Speedmaster broken within 30 minutes of leaving AD.

Oddest thing. Picked up a new hesalite 3861 from a very reputable AD this afternoon. Watch was fully wound. Ran the chrono when I got home, watch seized at 19 seconds into the chrono running.

Chrono second hand and seconds subdial are frozen and the watch winds indefinitely…doesn’t hit the stop. My guess is a broken main spring.

I’m not concerned about my AD taking a return, but incredibly disappointed. Curious to hear if anyone else has heard of movement problems or if I just got a lemon.

Bummer. I don't get the sense this particular failure is common.

I think there was another instance of some teething trouble that happened in a number of watches (I don't recall the exact symptom).

Tudor GMT date issue comes to mind but that was wide spread.

I'm pretty sure over on Omegaforums this is a not uncommon issue with the 3861 that was discussed. This occurred enough that Omega issued a service bulletin to their boutiques.

Appreciate the last couple of comments. Went back to the AD. Salesperson had the same problem I did, but it started running fine again with their in-house watchmaker. Hopefully just an odd snag. We’ll see.

Someone else started a similar thread here a few months back. I believe he exchanged for a different one, and the second also exhibited the same issue.

That said, I’ve had no issues with mine at all.

Sorry it happened, and hopefully the fix sticks.

I believe once you get this problem, it’s bound to keep happening. See the OmegaForum thread.

Doubt their watchmaker did anything other than function check.

Yes, sounds like the main spring is not hooked on the barrel or shaft spur. If it's working now it may be fine. How long did the watch maker have it? He may have been able to remove the barrel and hook the spring in a timely fashion. I have done that with pocket watches. Only takes a few minutes if the barrel is accessible.

The same thing happened when the coaxial escapement was introduced to the Planet Ocean. Mine stopped and had to be changed to the 2500D variant.

That's why I bought the 1861. (NOS).

I did the same after reading about the problems with the 3861. Fortunately I was able to still get the 1863.

Similar incident happened to my new SMP 300, purchased in August of last year.
It’s a watch that gets rotated with two other pieces. Went to put it on after a week lying dormant and it would not start even after 30-40 winds.

Omega Boutique sent it off and the diagnosis was broken mainspring. Came back running better than new.

Sometimes you get a watch that was made on a Friday before or a Monday after a Soccer match or another sporting event that involves lots of drinking.... It’s disappointing, but that’s what warranties are for.

Archer on omega forums hinted he read a service bulletin that omega found that it’s part that omega is replacing. Just picked up a 3861 speedy and reading about this problem ruined the honeymoon. So far I have not seen the issue yet.
