Icon20 Scratches on safety-lock (crown) clasp on new Rolex Submariner 124060

Dear all

I just picked a brand new Rolex Submariner 124060 a couple of days ago. I am naturally ecstatic :-).

I realize of course it is a watch, and it WILL get scratched. But I noticed some fairly visible scratches in both sides of the underside of the safety-lock clasp i.e. the small one with the crown on it. It is obvious that they have been made by the two small spring levered balls, that the clasp closes over. So probably unavoidable.

Still I might have only opened the clasp some 30 times by now, and the watch is only 3 days old. So I was wondering if maybe the precision in the closing mechanism is off or something, and would love to hear if any of you have similar experiences, and whether this is normal and acceptable metal-on-metal wear?

I have attached a couple of pics.

Thanks for you replies.

Kind regards

Michael

Congrats on the watch! Just checked mine and it has the same marks.

I'm more worried on the scratch on your wrist. Get some neosporin on it right away!

Don’t worry; it’s self-healing. The one on your wrist, anyway.

Joking aside, your original question is totally valid and I’m glad you asked.

My 124060 has the exact same marks and they also started within the first few days of life.

Enjoy your fabulous watch!

My Explorer has same. In fact, I wonder if Rolex actually machines it to have small grooves to guide the ballbearings on the clasp.

But trust me: That's not a piece you want hanging loose at all!

Metal on metal crime here. Nothing to be worried about. Underside of bracelet where it meets clasp will scratch. Polished edges will scratch without any good reason. Clasp. Kiss that clean aesthetic goodbye. Might last a year or two. Beyond that will take a ton of scratches. A few bracelet swirls will randomly show up. Etc.

All part of the game. Enjoy the watch!

Mine has this too, but if I rub the area really good with my finger, they seem to become much less visible. I assume it is a byproduct of having such tight tolerances so definitely no need to worry. Congrats on the watch!

I don’t see anything that remotely looks like a scratch on that clasp.
Come on, get over it and enjoy your sub.

Exactly that plus the fact that all watches will get scratched by wearing, if some got to worry over there watches getting scratched best leave them in there box.
