GOLD, Silver and so called bronze

The 2021 Tokyo Olympics medal composition:

Gold: more than 6 grams of gold plating on pure silver (556 grams)
Silver: pure silver (550 grams)
Bronze: red brass (95% copper and 5% zinc) (450 grams)

So if you win gold you are really only just getting a little gold but don't rub it too much or you might be reducing your medal to a Silver...

Silver remains true to its name with it being pure silver, well done

Bronze seems more like a red brass, perhaps the allure of rose gold has found fashion. At the same time, a nice deep yellow brass colour might just be mistaken for gold especially given the parsimonious amount of gold (plating ) on the gold medal. Maybe they should rename the bronze medal the "copper medal"

Giving a gold medal a little more gold would not seem unreasonable given the tireless dedication and effort to win 'gold' by athletes.

Tudor (unlike Rolex) seems to cover the 3 metals: gold, silver and bronze in its Black Bay with solid metals.

Ask yourself why they don't earn a pure gold metal as was done for decades previous.

It’s the endorsements that are worth their weight in gold

The should rename them Gold Color Medal, Silver Color Medal and Bronze Color Medal.

I have a bunch of Gold Medals from playing hockey which are plastic.

We're coddling these athletes too much. If plastic was good enough for me, then.....

good enough for you? um yeaahhh sorry, but for most of these olympians, there's likely a wide gap between olympic-level performance in their respective competitions, and extracurricular hockey with the fellas down at the local ice rink on tuesday nights.

At this point just as likely to get a gold plastic medal with a flash drive in it.

Given the current 'woke' state of things, I'm a little surprised they're still awarding non-sustainable medals, at all. Pressed hemp would seem the obvious choice.

I just read that Games organisers have told the medal winners to stop "biting" the medals for photographers, as they are made from recycled cell phones and may contain toxic substances.

Oh sure.

And they'd come home some night and find someone had broken in and smoked their trophy wall.

And eaten all their snacks.
