A current DJ is at best a mix of stainless steel and gold, a DD is pure precious metal, so a big difference in how they wear.

Other than that I cannot comment, I have a DJ and would happily add a DD to the collection but those lottery numbers need to come up first.

i used to think they're too similar but i changed my mind on it. sometimes a day date is too much for the occasion and you just wanna wear something similar but not as out there. i'm currently waiting for a two tone wimbledon for that reason

It depends how much you care for daily driving a precious metal piece and which configuration DJ you buy. A DateJust smooth oyster is basically a steel sports model and can be treated as such.

A DD plays in a league of its own, a regular DJ might be a little more understated but you can have also blingy DJs, full gold references are 16018, 16238, 116238 and diamond bezeled 116188 YG, 116244 SS in a variety of interesting dials. While I lean more towards the character of a DD personally, I gladly appreciate the classic form and clean dials of a DJ.

So back to the q, does the dd .fit into q collection that has the dd?

DD and DJ are both sport watches. I currently have a DJ, but need a watch with a day function too. The DJ and DD are not redundant in these circumstances.

Nope. I can afford whichever Rolex I want, and when I was choosing my first Rolex a few years ago I looked at a YG DD and a TT DJ, chose the DJ as I liked the look better (was always the model I associated with “Rolex”), preferred the jubilee, and felt it would be far more versatile as I am not one to pursue a large collection. It has not let me down, and I wouldn’t trade it for any other Rolex regardless of cost.

DayDate is much heavier than the DJ because it’s only available in PM. The DJ is much more suitable for daily use and it has more dial options as compared to the DD.

Had a few of both, different sizes, materials, bracelets, dials.

The datejust is probably one of the most important watches in watch history, I personally would take a steel 36mm over any daydate, when you already have a few rolexes, then yes, a day date is always a good a addition the the collection, otherwise, no.

If you want visual variety, consider the white gold DJ…just a touch of white gold, in the fluted bezel, otherwise a stainless steel watch. Or, consider a DJ in Everose, if your DD is yellow gold, or vice versa.

To a watch enthusiast, even the slightest difference is difference enough. So, in the end, buy what you really like.
