For those of you that hate leaf blowers….
I hate these things! Sick and tired of hearing them, electrics are still noisy but not nearly as bad. THANK YOU to my home state.

For those of you that hate leaf blowers….
Time to start a small gas engine repair company in California.
TJ lawn equipment sales will go up. |

Gas powered lawn mowers too? Wow. How will golf courses and other people with large yards be able to mow? As far as I know, there aren't any large, riding commercial mowers that are battery operated.

That means Michigan will ban them in 2031.

It won't be until 2024 at the earliest.
It doesn't ban having them, just selling them in state. |

The mow and blow industry is devastated.
Is this the time to invest in broom stocks. In California will all these electrical tools take down the grid??

Way overdue, people's allergies are whacked out because of these darn things. I suppose landscapers will use the Black Market and bring them in from other states.

I envision acres and acres of obsolete lawn mowers, edgers, and leaf blowers when the entire landscape industry tosses their stuff.
There is probably some room in the plastic straw dumps that now abound in the state.

I hate leaf blowers, but this new California law is going to put a lot of lawn-care businesses out of business.

That headline is misleading because it’s all off-road gas powered products including chainsaws.
I think this also includes 2-stroke ATVs and dirt bikes.

How so Grady? Yes there will be some growing pains in switching over to electrical machines, but I don’t think it will be enough to put them out of buying. Later in the article it talked about incentives in tax breaks and possible grant for those that switch. I don’t think it will be a huge blow (pun intended ) to landscape businesses.

Some hotels in Hawaii are already using the fairly quiet battery operated ones.

I can see it now, hundreds of landscape trucks mounted with their gas/diesel generators, running non-stop to keep their dozens of batteries charged up while they go house to house to keep the California celebrity yards up to snuff.

Besides the noise, they're WAY too powerful. The guys I used to have would blow all the bark chips off the flower beds in about a month.
Great, I spent $300 on decorative bark chips and they would blow stray leaves and all the bark off. I don't allow the new guys to use blowers at all.

There is no doubt this transition will be difficult, a lot of the same issues we have with electrical cars. I am sure many will resist this change, but as just a citizen that hates hearing these obnoxious machines I am very happy this is being implemented.

Tesla might be getting into the landscaping equipment business.

Instead of people annoyed with gas leaf blowers, they will have even louder home depot special generators running. Non stop. |

Once service vehicles migrate to EVs like the F-150 electric, could these be used in conjunction with corded blowers? I've used a cheapo corded blower for my garage and it's adequate. Put a well designed motor on one that can run off of an EV truck battery, no need to carry small battery packs. Yes I understand that 100' extension cords are a pain in the rear. Provide tax incentives to small biz landscape companies to make the switch. Do what it takes to make the transition as painless as possible.
Regarding mowers, that could be more challenging. Not sure if EV tech has migrated to any large mowers. Would definitely be an issue for companies that do several yards per day. Main problem with those mowers is they are not nearly as efficient as modern petrol engines. Sadly, if drought persists, millions of lawns will be abandoned in the western US anyway. Change is coming no matter what.... |

Exactly. The amount of pearl clutching in this thread because of a leaf blower in the near vicinity for a short amount of time is laughable. People are so soft these days. And in the overall scheme of things this will not impact climate change one bit. Start influencing China and India's global impact and make a difference.

Yes, ridiculous! What is the phase-in plan?? Offer an incentive for people to switch at least.
Coincidentally, I was at Lowe's yesterday and bought a battery operated leaf blower - it's fantastic!! Replacing my perfectly good electric blower and 150 ft of extension cords. I'm tired of the cords. I'm buying an electric snowblower next. I'm tired of small engines. |

This will make all of the power outages interesting. The State of California solves numerous problems not needing a solution.
