Thanks. Looks like the CAN/USA border is going to open two weeks too late for you. You obviously see more on TV, but there is something extra fun about taking someone to their first F1 race. Especially if it's your son.

Live races are the way to go. I brought him to the Montreal F1 two years ago and loved it….I try to explain to him how crazy the cars live were in the 1990’s and 2000’s….best time to be a F1 fan, there is nothing like it. Today’s races you can watch live with no ear plugs….back then, no ear plugs and I swear your ears would bleed!

I saw every F1 race in Long Beach from '76 to '83 then the three in Phoenix. The engine sounds then were incredible. The 3.0 liter V-8s were screamers, but when the flat 12s from Ferrari at Long Beach or the V-12s from Ferrari and Ligier-Lamborghini went by you in Phoenix, it was well and truly painful.

We went to Indy 3 times and Montreal once during the V10 & V8 eras. There's nothing like hearing the screaming V10's at 20,000 RPM and sonic booms from the downshifts before the double clutch era! You could feel the noise through the metal bleachers and into your chest. An incredible time to attend.

What blew me away is if you were still in downtown Montreal waiting to get on the metro to get to the track, the cars could be heard loud and clear from the city...just friggin nuts. I went to every race from 1988 to present, the one that blew me away was when they had no speed limits in the pits. I still have videos from sitting in our seats on the pit straight and the cars would literally come off the jacks and as soon as the tires hit the ground, the driver would pin it.....just absolutely bonkers.

Wow, amazing, I remember the V12's and I still get goosebumps watching videos of them. Don't forget that Maclaren of Mika Hakinnen with the exhaust exiting from the top of the engine....what a crazy and unique sound. We truly witnessed an era of cars and drivers...NO DRIVERS AIDS

In 2019, CoTA did the historic F1 races with the DFV Cosworths V-8 F1 cars from the 70's and 80's. I was sitting in the main grandstand, and those cars were deafening. I had to leave and buy $10 earplugs right outside the main grandstand because it was so uncomfortable for my ears.

Looks like Petronas is out and Aramco is in for the title sponsorship of the Mercedes F1 team. Think Lewis will protest or speak out against his new Saudi sponsors?

In other news..... Want to race in the Kingdom?  Well it's not just the rose water instead of bubbly on the podium we're used to seeing in Middle Eastern countries, but now the Saudi's have implemented a dress codes for both men and women (mostly women), no shorts or short sleeves (will female F1 team members have to wear head scarves?), limited facial make up, no outwardly showing of affection (think paddock celebrations) and no profane language (Is Kimi going to be arrested for his radio messages?).  For all the woke and virtuous climate change signals emitting from F1 lately, they sure value that cash more than their principles....

That shouldn't be news to any of us that follow F1 with more than a passing interest. It's always been about the money.

And you sir would be 100% correct! I'm just wondering if the rainbow flag on the WE RACE AS ONE logo or any of the other Pride symbols will be allowed in SA where homosexuality is illegal with brutal penalties. Vettel wore a special livery helmet at a certain race this year in support of gay rights. Will he do it in SA? Just pointing out the hypocrites from the top to the bottom.

Forget about Kimi.... Gunther Steiner may have a life sentence if they don't muzzle him!

Long live King Kimi.
1. Martin Brundle: “Kimi, you missed the presentation by Pele.”
Kimi : “Yeah.”
Martin: “Will you get over it?”
Kimi: “Yeah. I was having a shit.”

2. Interviewer: ”What makes TAG Heuer special?”
Kimi: “It’s OK.”

3.Interviewer: “What kind of a relationship do you have with Peter Sauber?”
Kimi: “He is my boss.”

4. “I read somewhere that I drive with the luck of a drunk.”

5. “Suddenly the steering wheel was in my hands. I tried to put it back on, but it was too late. I was just wondering where I was going to end up.”

6. “I’d rather be probably out of second and third place so I don’t have to go to the prize-giving.”

7. ”Ah, go and interview Mikko Leppilampi. He likes to talk.”

8. Interviewer: “Is it true that sometimes you’re bored in the car?”
Kimi: “Only when I am in front by a country mile, like in Melbourne last year. Then you are thinking about other things or you’re playing with the buttons on the steering wheel.”

9. ”I’m not interested in what people think about me. I’m not Michael Schumacher.”

10. ”The interesting thing will be to see what the weather will do tomorrow. I lost my mirror during the final qualifying session but didn’t notice it, and it had no effect. Now we will see what happens in the race.”

11. “You don’t drive races on paper.”

12. “Driving is the only thing I love about F1.”

13. Interviewer: “The helmet has a special meaning for many drivers. How important is it to you?”
Kimi: “It protects my head.”

14. “The Constructor’s Championship doesn’t really mean anything to me.”

15. “Coulthard can say what he wants. I’m not interested in what he’s saying.”

16. “Montoya’s comments doesn’t interest me.”

17. “I’m not interested in what Jackie says. He hasn’t got anything to do with me.”

18. “Others can sit in the simulators if they want. I´m here to drive.”

19. Interviewer: “The most exciting moment during the race weekend?”
Kimi: “I think so it’s the race start, always.”
Interviewer: “The most boring?”
Kimi: “Now.”

20. Interviewer: ”Do you have any special rituals when the helmet is concerned like many have?”
Kimi: “I wipe it so that I can see better.”

21. When asked about how his yellow flag affected the other drivers:
Kimi: “I don’t care what happened to the others.”

22. “It’s all the same if it rains or not.”

23. “Ferrari’s own parties are the nicest. There are all the crew and their children. I don’t know exactly what I will do there. Maybe I will be Santa. Other parties are official and boring.”

24. Interviewer: “Kimi, what’s the 5th grid place like?”
Kimi: “It’s the 5th grid place.”

25. Interviewer: “What is your feeling before the race?”
Kimi: “It’s alright.”

Bottas has outscored both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton since being told he will not longer be with Mercedes next year. But fear not! Toto has found a way to make sure Valterri does not finish in front of Lewis this weekend and that is to have him take yet another new engine and start him from the back…that’s now 3 new engines in 4 races.

In all seriousness though, Mercedes is up to something and wonder if they are using Bottas for testing new components in their engine for next year. Taking all these engines when it’s absolutely unnecessary tells me they are most likely exploiting a loophole in the sporting regulations.

For some reason my iPhone won’t open that file - just get this:

But I do agree…

Anyone watching FP sessions on Friday & Saturday were treated to a very “flexible” rear-end on HAM’s chassis. While the reg.’s outlaw moveable aero (except, of course, DRS), the ability to allow a rear-end to “squat” under a given amount of downforce changes rake dynamically. That changes aero without being non-compliant.

BOT engine swaps may well be R&D in real-time - but may also be necessary. When you fiddle with one ICE component in a stressed element, it can cause harm elsewhere that reduces power. BTW, the under-driver is always the stalking horse on a team so that’s not new.

A bit off topic, but thank you Max for boycotting drive to survive.

I couldn’t finish the last season of it. The series is a bit irritating to me with Will Buxton droning on making up fake drama and stories or blowing it way out of proportion turning the whole thing into reality TV. Glad Max Verstappen called it out.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fox...dd23d6d1871e84

Different subject again. Looking forwards to race today with the way all the qualifying times ended up. I hope it’s an entertaining one, but more often than not it is not in Austin. Kind of a boring track IMO, and a bit over done with all the cowboy hats and stuff.

Spent yesterday at turn 9. Have never been to a Saturday at F1. That was awesome.

Leaving, it was shoulder to shoulder, with people all up on your front and back. I don’t recall ever being within a crowd that packed.

The Official Formula One Thread!

On Drive to Survive topic, I’ve watch a good deal of it and realize it isn’t for everyone - I disdain the hyperbole. But promotion is good for the sport and we have a real gap in age groups currently.

Been bringing 14 year olds into 800hp TransAm cars who absolutely smoke the veterans. Same in FA class.

As for the crowds at Austin - thank god they are there - coulda sold 250K tickets methinks. As for entering/leaving, I show up at 0-dark:30 and am usually some of the last to leave.
