5524R / 5524G : Why no love from the Patek world ?

Totally agree. I did the same thing and got a 7234. I get so many compliments on how well it fits. It is the perfect size for some of us

Own a 5524G. Love it. Even better with a strap color change. And I ordered a WG Calatrava deployment buckle to replace the tang buckle to class it up a bit, just bc I like being a little different. I’m a subscriber to “buy what you like, and not on hype”

I have been looking at the WG version since when they dipped below 35k. I wished I’d bought one back then. I think I will trade a few pieces that too have appreciated in the interim to mitigate the almost 10k disparity between today’s market and then. I really like this watch but laziness crept in. I’ll get one and buy the blue Patek strap currently offered on this variant.

As my first and only (for now) Patek, no regrets with the 5524G.

The dial is a chameleon, and you just need to find the right coloured custom strap that works for you (taupe, in my case).

And in some markets, its market value is creeping over retail.

Looks great. You're absolutely correct that the dial changes with the light from an almost black to a beautiful textured navy blue. Lots of strap options just increases its allure. Enjoy.

Those who own this watch - is it part of your regular rotation? Do you still appreciate it after some time? I used to think this watch was hideous, but now I feel like I've done a 180, and am lusting after it (though really hoping it doesn't dwarf my 6.5" wrist).

Weird, same thing happened to me with the Aquanaut where I hated it when I first saw it, and now I am considering the 5065A as my next purchase if it isn't this 5524G. DECISIONS!

Which came first, the G or the R? I ask because on Patek's site, the description for the "R" mentions that: "It is also the first self-winding Travel Time model in Patek Philippe’s collection for women." However, the G version makes no such mention, nor does it mention gender at all.

I think it was probably intended as unisex, since the strictly "women's" versions are typically visually differentiated to a greater degree than just size - diamonds on the Aquanaut and wave dial on the Nautilus.

If I were looking at this watch, I'd be looking at the 37.5mm version.

Can someone shed some light on why this is the only non-Aquanaut/Nautilus watch to have WR greater than 30m? Seems odd that either it was needed for this watch and/or not possible on others.

5524g owner here.

6 months in (or more) and it still is part of my weekly rotations. I was in the same boat of hate changed to can’t stop thinking about it.

I pick it up a good bit and swap straps often.

Loving my 5524g, still gets much wear 1 yr later. My wrist is 6.70 in. Love the subtle way the dial changes in different light, the great lume a of course, the very useful travel time. Go for it.

7.25” here on the wrist. I usually wear it enough that it stays wound.

Great Patek daily and not too terribly heavy.

A month in and loving it. You can really change the vibe by updating the strap.

This reference is so unique in the Patek catalog that it has a good chance of being a future classic, although it doesn’t hold value as well as other PP references at the moment.

I'm excited for you! This is a GREAT watch, and one of the reasons it's so great is how well it looks on different straps.

There's something baller about taking a $55k watch and throwing a funky strap on it. The one in the pic is the Gray Suede 20mm from Bulang and Sons, a company in the Netherlands with very high end stuff in different materials. Believe it or not, the strap shows up in just a few days, and Mr. Bulang is super cool and responsive to questions.

I've purchased 5 straps from them, some of which will end up on the Patek.

Hope yours comes in soon, and please post pics when it does!!!

I’ve been trying to decide which colour strap to put on mine and this thread has given me some great ideas. To everyone changing straps, are you using the original Spring bars? My understanding was that the originals are WG and if you were to switch to stainless it could cause damage over time to the lug holes.

I absolutely love mine. I agree with the comments that the tan strap seemed to not quite sit right though. Once I got a blue one sorted it totally transformed it!!

I'm a fan of the watch, but in the world of Patek surrounded by limited funds allocated for my watches and a preference of a smaller watch collection, it's unfortunately not going to make the list.

I also do prefer the 5960G which gives a similar vibe to the watch. Also do prefer the 5522A over it as well.
