Rolex Dial Codes

Hi - this is my first post and I've looked extensively for the answer elsewhere.

I'm interested in knowing how long Rolex has used dial codes following the reference number? I can't seem to find them for models around 2005 and earlier and was wondering if anyone had access to old Rolex product lit that contained this info.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have some of the codes for pre-2000 Day-Date dials, if that would be of any help. If not, you might want to let us know which model’s dial codes you’re looking for, or if there is a specific dial for which you want the code.

Do you happen to have the full list of the pre-2000 white gold Day-Date dials?

What about the 5 digit Day-Dates like the 18239?

I think this is the only one I have with photos for 5-digit WG DD dials. (The dial codes are the part after the hyphen.) Although each of these is preceded by a “18038-,” the photos are obviously of 18039/18239 WG dials, and I see at least one here which was not offered until well after the 1803X references ended in 1988.

This list is not at all complete - For example, it doesn’t show any of the wood burl or no-marker stone dials, though they were certainly offered in WG on 5-digits. Older dials would be removed (or listed as an “Invalid purchase”) when the stock ran low/out, and dials were added or changed in most years. Idk what year this list is from, but I believe it is somewhere 1995-‘99.

I have another dial code list without any photos, so if there’s a particular dial not shown here for which you want the code, lmk and I’ll look.

Thanks. I've seen that chart here on the forums before.

In fact, I think many of those dials are still available as dial swaps through Rolex.

I was also under the impression that those Roman dials were post 2000? I've only ever seen them in the 6 digit Day-Dates. I've also seen factory Stella dials on the 5 digit Day Dates.
