Whats the Rolex Serial Number good for?

Hello my friends,

i am just curious what the serial number is good for. is it possible to track down the way of the watch and answer questions like "which retailer has sold the watch?" and "what time was it delivered to the retailer?"? or is the serial number that personalized that its possible to figure out the former owner of the watch?

Hi,

You can tell approximately when the watch was made from the s/n.
IMO.
Rolex have the details on exactly how it left their factory. They would know which retailer it was sent to and when. Rolex would also have the service history and they would know who the first purchaser was.
I don't thing Rolex will pass this information back out of their system.
