16760 GMT Master II MK 2 dial R serial

Hi all,

I am new member here.
I saw one nice piece, which was sold newly in 1988, R38…. serial number, clasp is 06/87 production date. The only thing which I realised, that it has an MK II dial version. Is it possible that it is an original dial for this model or it should 100% MK III dial version.
Thank you in advance.

Welcome Sir, Some say the MK2 (i not over 31 marker and more than a a half circle G on GMT) stopped at 9.4 million and then went to MK3 (i over 31 and half circle G) but I think that's that's way too prescriptive, and a suspect MK TWO is as yours came. Dial marks are what we bods invent of course and many overlap entirely from year to year. Most swaps are dubious and somewhat nefarious (eg finding/swapping a matte 16660 into a 8.7million case and pocketing an extra £3k) Ask yourself what would be the motivation swapping this watch out eg fitting a mk3 and removing the mk 2, say 5 or 10 years ago when the watch was £3k and both dial versions were the same money and even the one year OYSTER PERPETUAL version was only £250 more. Nobody would entertain the notion. Lovely patina indeed too btw. Rgds Paul

Dear Paul,
Thank you very much. The watch has all the papers, even the original sales receipt and the box too. It is from my birthday, that is why I am thinking on this GMT. I also can’t imagine why should change the dial to an older version. The only thing what I can imagine is that it has a service dial and once it was changed to an old one. I don’t know it is true or not, but I am not sure this watch has the original dial. I don’t know how could I sure in it. I love also the patina on it.
Regards, David

Looks very similar to my 16760 from 1988

Buchmann69's dial would be considered correct for a late
GMT 16760. The one on the OP's watch is an earlier variation. I would not call the op's incorrect, but it is not normally found on the later models.
