Well spoken and true enough. When all is said and done, the owner was a soldier carrying a rifle and pack-in a combat zone. My watch tended to be a reminder of where I had been. Not being a real "collector" my focus is on the tool watch Rolex era before it became fashionable as a luxury watch. Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, made special arrangements for RAF AC crews who lost their watches while captured by the Nazis in the Stalags. If Rolex has backed us in the past, we in the military return that loyalty. They make excellent tool watches that may have become the sport models-but we know what the 1953 Submariners were designed for-as Wilsdorf was still at the helm. |
