Tastes change and these small pieces have fallen out of fashion. Not only do many have repainted dials, but Panerai helped start the big watch trend and this continued with most brands settling at around 40mm as standard. With the fear of being robbed a daily concern for some, who knows these smaller pieces may creep back into popularity. They are lovely.

Why did bubble backs fall out of favor?

I do like the smooth 'bubble' back; I like the elegant case shape of these watches even more.

Modern OPs, Daytonas, YMs etc are a nicer shape than the GMTs etc. but it would be great to see 'bubble' curves make a comeback in the Rolex catalogue.

I just bought a 6284 which I think they call a semi bubble bath the serial number dates the 1955 and seems to match the date inside the case back... I'm new here and have to build up some posts but I will post some photos of it soon as I get to the obligatory 10 posts LOL

Here's mine from 1944. Not sure of the model number or caliber, but I like the rose gold. Yes, it's small vs. today's large watches, but I think it looks great.
